James, lovely wire wheels you have on her there. For a predominantly road car I've often thought the wires are the ultimate vintage/period feature. Do you know what kind of hubs were used?

Hi Cliff
The wire wheels certainly add to this cars vintage look, James and myself really want to keep them on the car .The hubs are splined 42mm adaptors bolted on to 5 stud granada hubs,i have not yet identifide the wheel manufacturer, there is a problem to be sorted in that the 5 stud nuts are fouling the back face of the wheel centre preventing the conical mating surfaces from seating correctly. This is on the list of jobs to do,hope i get there before old age stops me.
cheers
John

more pics of what john has been upto...engine is really starting to take shape....fingers crossed we will be able to get the car finished in time to miss the sva changes!!!!!!!

James, When does it have to be complete to miss the changes? What if you take it in before the deadline and it fails? Will it have to meet the new standards when it is reinspected or just correct the issues to meet the old standards? If just meet the old standards take it in just before the deadline even if it isnt finnished. So it will fail but still fall under the old standards. Not sure if you can work it that way or not. Just trying to work the system. :)

Hi James
Forgot to mention that the pictures show that the spline retaining nuts arrived and all appears ok to keep the wire wheels. I shall try to source some SVA ok wheel nuts, whilst resolving some of the other parts/fitting issues this week, hopefully then I can fit up the front brakes (pictured awaiting assembly).
Cliff ,not able to as yet identify the wheel manufacturer, may find a clue when we remove those massively oversized rear tires.
cheers
John (day off tomorrow hoorah!)

time to post some more pics....the build is coming along reallly well and althought there have been a few hold ups, there car is taking shape and looking great....going up to see john next week.....maybe i will hear her start, but no pressure john:thumbsup:

be good to get some feedback, i know the mk3 is not everyones cup of tea, but it is still a gt40......anyone else out there building a mk3 at the moment?????

Hi James,
The Mk111 is a genuine GT40, no question and not many originals made either. It is a road car, and built to be as such. That doesn't detract from it's appeal in my eyes. Proportion wise it's not as squat as the Mk1 or as aggressive looking as the Mk11 but it has it's own appeal. I like them and I especially like yours with the wire wheels and dark blue paint. You can be sure that at any event, including GT40 meets, there won't be many MK111's, so you have something which is a little different but still very cool. IMHO
Martin

cheers martin...thats good of you to say...the car is black, but is going to have white stripes put on and racing numbers, just to give it that road/race look....how is your car coming on ?????

Black, I'm sorry. Still looks great.
Racing numbers and stripes on a MK111, now that I've not seen before. Looks like the way John is putting it together though, you won't have any build issues if you did want to track it.
Mine is coming along at a slower rate than I would like. Hope to pick things up in a month or so and really get going. Engine next, then I have my brakes coming, then fuel, cooling and exhaust to go on. Should be taking shape soon. I'll be posting pics.
Cheers,
Martin

ok......BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....today gentleman, another GT40 burst into life..... it gives me great joy to let you know that we fired my engine up today for the first time............drove to johns this morning only to arrive and hear my engine fired up..........stilll walking around with a massive grin on my face!!!!!its a good feeling.....john has worked so hard over the last couple of weeks and kept to his promise of getting the engine running before Feb........ seriously, if anyone is looking for a builder to help with there project , you carnt go wrong with john...

now we just need to get it finished off so we can get the SVA done ..........easy!!!!!!!!
