Look at this crap..

So I've been putting together a 383 sbc for a while and have been getting hung up on waiting for parts and what not. The motor is pretty much near complete and I was just about to put the oil pan on and ran into another problem.

I'm running a Canton Road Race oil pan which requires their oil pickup. I first got the wrong pickup, now the one I have seems to be defective. There's a tab on the pickup that's supposed to lay flat onto the pump. But as you can see from the picture, one of the other bolts on the pump is hitting the pickup preventing it from mounting correctly.

I'm really getting tired of these hang-ups and I'm running out of nice weather! I'm sure its going to be another week to get this taken care of..

A low profile 'buttonhead' cap screw to replace the existing bolt that fouls the pickup might solve that particular problem...dont use a spring washer on it, just a drop of loctite.
Yes it looks like crap, is probably american made & if it was here in NZ it would be in the skip along with the pan......while I had a nice cool Rum n Coke & vowed never to buy anything like that again:)

It might fit if I use low profile bolts, but I'm in comunication with Canton about this and they said it should work with the standard hardware. So if the part is defective, and I make it 'fit', then I dont know if the depth of the pickup will be correct. I guess I could try the low profile bolts and then do the old putty trick to measure the the clearance to see where it is. I think ill give that a try.

By far the easiest fix would be to replace the bolt with a countersunk cap screw and then you would have no interference at all.

Don't be to concerned with it, its only a chebbie, bolt it in as is then throw the whole lot in the skip bin and give FOMOCO a call.
