Really nice progress David. That diffuser is a work of art.

With regard to the Mesa mod vs. stock config a few observations…

Mesa Mod
1)Enables the doors to open to a near vertical position
2)Gas strut is more easily accessible
3)Strut is visible on the door jamb
4)Sizable hole needs to be cut in door to accommodate movement of strut

Stock
1)Doors open far less than Mesa Mod
2)Some builders have modified the stock hinges to open more(Ken and Johan)
3)Gas strut harder to get to and service
4)No gas strut on the door jamb, cleaner look

Thank you for insight! Hmmmm.. wish there was a template for the Mesa method on the door, it seems like a guessing game knowing where to cut out the hole in the door and strut placement wouldn't be too bad if didn't already paint the doors
 
Awesome work! Are the front radiators for intercooling, rear radiators for engine cooling?

Front rad and rear pass side are for the coolant system, they run in series, with 1.5in hardline, a CWA400 waterpump and a mechanical HTD belt driven pump on both ends of the circuit

The driver side rad is for the intercooler, the engine will have an integrated water intercooler core inside the intake plenum
 
Update

Upgraded to zo6 bearings,
Powdercoated chassis and suspension
Converted front shocks to use Air Cups and full length 7in springs, machined the shock collars to use 2.25in diameter to fit the cups. Cups will share air from the holinger shift system

Gel coat and clear coat underway

Prepped the oem white gel, using polyester fairing compound. Hundreds of hours of sanding to get the oem to be perfectly flat.

Apply new gel with duratec high gloss additive

Sand back the texture, re spray, sand back texture respray. Very time consuming.

Once it's all black and smooth then clear with ppg 2021

Car has same theme of colors as the mf7 rx7,

Firewall is welded into the cage to make it more secure and easier to remove with the cage

Difficult part;
Engine in/out requires removing fuel tank which means body and cage. So it's all designed to be easily removed. No interior panels, except for closeouts on the sides from cooling tubes etc

Next up, the mockup drivetrain and cooling components reinstalled,

Then off to manifold(s) Fabrication and exhaust, charge piping, gates and fuel rails, throttle body

Everything will come back out for the real engine to replace the dummy. And clutch / holinger real assembly

Engine should be finished shortly
 
While your at it - raise the upper front shock mount (relocate mount holes) to clear the A arm pivot bolts. It will make removing the shock a whole lot easier in the future..

Color sanded and buffed the nose, mounted all the aero bits and headlights etc

Finished mocking up the dash, now to take it apart for CF wrap

Designed coil brackets off to CNC

Mucking around with the dry sump for literally 21 days to figure out the routing. Pump is so low, engine is so low. Engine is like less than .5in from bottom of chassis it's amazing the center of gravity/roll center with rotary. But man it's a pain to get lines made with dry sump pump.

After finding some custom fittings from Australia - banjos for the pan - looks like the fittings on bottom of pump can run the lines up and over the pump, back down the other side and into the banjos. Can't run filter screens but it is what it is gotta move forward. Trying to confirm that sucking the oil up and over pump won't be an issue. The front 4 will suck up and over, the back 2x are pressure pumps which draw from the tank. The tank certainly has a large degree of overhead/gravity so they shouldn't be an issue. What do you guys think?

Real engine is stateside just waiting for the customs to let it through!

Next up is manifold fabrication. 5 to 1 collector, 2in primaries, equal length and cram it all in here with 2x 60mm gates!
 
Just discovered this project on YT yesterday, then IG, but was disappointed with the lack of content this build deserves. Happy I found this build thread, but I still wish there were more vids, pics and details documenting all this amazing work. Love the wheels and tires. Could this car have the lowest CG of any ICE car ever? Hmmm, now that I think about it, is the CG going to be so much lower than normal that the suspension mounting points need to be changed to lower the roll center? Probably not. Probably over-thinking it. Would be interesting to see what a simulator would show, though.

More like under-thinking it. I suppose flat 4's and flat 6's are similar in their low center of gravity.
