Steve....we will look forward to hearing from you none-the-less /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I share all of the above sentiments and my heart also goes out to the victims and their families. Just nice ordinary people going about their daily lives. I can't figure out what these low life scumbags are trying to achieve

Also hard to accept in a city where I spent of the best years of my life and recognised all the street scenes.

As Tony Blair said last night Britain won't give in to the terrorists. There's a tough streak in the Brits as proved by their fortitude and resolve when London was blitzed during WW11. Then there is also the sense of humour even in adversity. Our book keeper lady in London back in the 1960s was involved in rescue work in the East End of London. She told me an amusing story of a house getting a direct hit and an old lady being pulled out from under the rubble of the totally demolished house. Covered in dust and bleeding from cuts and scratches she said, 'Well, that's got rid of the bloody flees then!' I'm sure that resolve is stll there.
And I'll say the same about the Americans who so quickly and efficiently cleaned up after the dreadful and devastating 9/11.

Sad times,

I feel so sorry for those directly and indirectly affected by these STUPID acts. It was bad enough having family staying in Kuta (Bali) when that one went off - 12 hours of agonising & trying to get info - so I can relate directly to the situation - and here we go again.

What really bugs me is that all the politicians make all the "correct" noises - disgusting, murderous, horrifying, shocking - all words which would make these moronic terrorists happy - just what they wanted - outrage from the West.

None of the "spokesmen" has ever mentioned the word STUPID, & to me, this is the core of the matter. Don't these cretinous terrorists know any history ? What was the single event that brought the Brits closer together than ever before - the Blitz. What was the single event that brought Americans closer together than ever before - 911.

Bali, Madrid, Etc, Etc. Bloody obvious ! Even the Irish seem to have woken up to reality (apologies to my ancestors) !

It would appear that we are dealing with the last twigs on a dead-end branch on the evolutionary tree - sub-humans who can't think & just lash out.

"Political Correctness" dictates that we can't call them for what they are - genetic throwbacks - as ever, we are hamstrung by our own higher sense of ethics.

In my opinion, the best reaction would be one of derision - call them stupid (REALLY STUPID), point out the obvious historical fact that in modern times, such attacks serve to unite, rather than divide "the enemy". Point out that these sorts of acts just make it harder for the West to try & make things better for the rest, that all they do is encourage a more isolationist attitude.

End of rant.

Well said Peter D. Can't agree more.

What disturbs me is this current mamby-pamby trend in the western world of forgiveness, turning the other cheek, being found guilty for thumping an intruder in your house, victims meeting with their attackers for a kiss and cuddle and that appalling expression 'political correctness', which basically means that you can't tell the truth.

When I suggested dropping the perpetrators of 9/11, if they are found, from the top of the Empire State Building I was told that I was being barbaric. Excuse my French, bullshit. They and the bastards who bombed London yesterday are the barbarians and maybe a eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth won't come amiss to give these people a message. By a remarkable coincidence in some Arab countries where heads and hands are cut off for criminal acts, crime is virtually zero. Why should there be nice rules for vicious criminals?

At least Australians and South Africans tend to say it like it is. I was once told that South Africans call a spade a bloody shovel and Australians call it a f ...... shovel.
Having said that if there are bleeding hearts out who don't approve of the long drop from the Empire State Builing, TOUGH LUCK!

Also end of rant

Firstly my heart goes out to all those with family involved.

That said I agree with Andre Peter and others - I'd help erecting the gangplank for them to walk! And yet I consider myself a pacifist.

I would suggest now that the media put a black out on the event yes we have seen yesterday's news but let's get on with our lives. These groups want the publicity - cut it out and we have the upper hand again!

Perhaps tough this thread should be in non GT40.

Previous history tells us the Muslims tried to take over Europe sometime in 1200's (might have my time wrong) and almost total annilation was what it took to stop them. Lessons can be learned from history, Wayne

Peter D and Andre. I wish I had said that. You both have expressed my thoughts, which my limited vocabulary does not allow me to do. A great Marine friend of mine Jack Crow, (not his real name, but if he reads this he will know who I mean) said to me and I have never forgotten it, "FREEDOM IS NEVER FREE. But the Marines will help you pay the price". I think it is about time every free country sent in their Marines and F**k politically correct anything.

It has always depressed me how violent a person is willing to be in order to avenge or "right" an injustice. It's a great shame and it speaks volumes about humanity that everybody feels that they have the right, because of what's happened to them or those near to them, to do anything, no matter how horrible. The logical conclusion of that kind of thinking is - everybody dies.
If people didn't spend their lives dehumanising everybody else, whether it be because of religion or whatever else, maybe just maybe this bunch of semi-intelligent primates could learn to get on with each other.
It'd mean allowing others the right to hold opinions and beliefs that you don't, something that seems to be too difficult for the more self-absorbed of this world, some of whom seem to believe that their opinion is worth more than the lives or happiness of ANYbody else no matter how many (possibly EVERYbody else).
By all means be angry but please be better than the b!@#$%^&s who perpetrate these crimes.
Not only are these scum killing and maiming but they are also forcing our societies backwards at an alarming rate.
Be angry, be vigilant and fight for justice, but please also fight for the things that set us apart from those who would destroy our societies. One last thing, don't let your Governments use these horrible events as excuses for just any kind of power, keep them representative of you.
These murdering scum became murdering scum believing they were in the right; they dehumanised everybody else to the extent that to them they mean nothing; in the end all they've done, apart from murder the innocent, is to become sub-human themselves.
Please remember before you start having a go at all Muslims that there are plenty of others (eg McVey) out there willing to blow up people and buildings, America knows that better than most.
This isn't written in direct response to any post above. Please don't look for offence in there as none is intended.

There are no justifiable reasons for what these animals did in London, and those individuals deserve no sympathy whatsoever when they are eventually brought to justice. However it should not be used as an excuse for us to escalate the situation by lashing out in all directions just because it makes us feel good. If we do then more innocent people will be drawn in on both sides and more violence will result. This is not about who has the biggest balls or who can piss higher. An intelligent society does whatever is necessary to solve the problem, even if it means taking the lower ground on retribution. We cannot protect ourselves against those cretins with tanks and guns. We can only do it by being smarter than them and ending the cycle of “us against them”. And it IS up to us to end this cycle because idiots who see bombing inocents as a solution do not have the moral grounding to do so. Let’s not be tempted to use the excuse that we are on the side of right and good to perpetuate the situation further, because they will then simply do the same.

I have heard estimates that our recent reaction to 9/11 has galvanized those who hate us and has spurned a new generation of cretins. This is not what a clever civilization should have done. To say that we should have done nothing is also wrong, but some estimates now are that our actions have put the cause back 20 years. It is a real tragedy that in 20 years time we will be solving this problem by doing what we should have started five years ago.

As others have said, I am not trying to direct offence toward any specific post. I am just trying to point out that we are now at a cross road where we can either take a working solution to this problem, or we can simply react with what may make us feel good in the short term but will serve no long term purpose

The events of yesterday do go to show that nothing has changed in the last three years of bombing Afghanistan / Iraq and generally threatening the middle east. I think it about time we tried to understand / accept them. I live and work in London every day and while I am horrified at what has happened ,the people that did this don't just hate our way of life ,they hate us trying to change their way of life. They aren't just crazy nutters like the media would have us understand they are human beings like us who are defending what they believe in the only way they can. This is how the war will be fought the Uk and US believing they are in control and the middle eastern extremists trying to score points back with terrorism. The only way to resolve this is not by force but by talking this out. Would we be interested in the middle east if they didn't have any oil ? Rant over !

Hi roaldin and Chris L,

Words of wisdom from both of you.Sad thing about events like these is that they can bring out the worst in all or some of us. I did my posts early yesterday morning through a sense of outrage. I've always hated wars and killing, cruelty and unkindness to people and animals and believe that diplomacy and negotiation to be the best solution in conflict situations. Yet in a contradiction in terms I find myself proposing that Osama bin Laden and his henchman be dropped from that tall building in New York, should they be found.Just my idea of suitable punishment to fit the crime.

It's said that violence begets violence and ends in a never ending circle. Perhaps the pacifists of this world have a point.

I wish I knew the answer but I can't get the suffering of yesterday out of my mind not to mention the futility of it all.

Roadil, I have to wonder how civilized you would be if someone killed you daughter because she wasn,t one of them and they believed that her death would cause your goverment to do what they want.

I can assure you that all through history from the time the first guy picked up a rock that the rock has gotten bigger and the guy throwing it has been able to throw it farther and farther.

Those people who blew up those trains in London would have blow up ALL of london if they could have. As sure as the guy with the rock wanted a bigger rock those assholes WILL get bigger rocks. Unless will KILL them first.

Now I am sure that Roadil and others like him will say that we can't kill them all. Sure we can, Just like we did the militant's in Japan and the Germany durning WW2. In the end they just couldn't take any more.

That is whats going on now in Iraq. The militant Isamists are seeing their middle east santuaries being converted to areas where people can think for themselfs instead of blindly following self interested "leaders" who's only interest is forcing everyone else to do it their way.

Freedom is their enemy and our greatest weapon.

I am with Roadlin and Cris L.

Scum like this do NOT deserve to live BUUUT,,,, they are like ants, have you ever tried to get rid of ants?! The best you can hope for is peacful coexistance. Destroy their sanctuary and isolate them. Just ¨killing them¨ will not get you anywhere.

I am in Mexico right now, found out about the tragedy yesterday, so sad and sensless. My condolences to ALL.
