Many guys, usually prompted by a supplier or engine shop, have hesitated to build an internally balanced small block Ford engine. Most have opted for the 28oz imbalance or inherited 50oz imbalance having bought a late model 5.0L.
This may change now that Eagle is shipping neutrally balanced crank shafts. I have no information on how precise the cranks are as shipped, but as long as they are close, it will save you around $500 in services and Mallory costs. Kennedy will sell you a neutrally balanced flywheel for your adapter kit. Even though they quoted me $330 for the flywheel, when it arrived the invoice said $180. I suppose they figured out that it took LESS work than the 28/50ox imbalance flywheels. Zero balance dampeners are also getting easier to find. I bought a stainless steel Romac from down under for $209.
Bye the way, since Eagle is doing this, I have to think that the others will soon follow suit. Maybe even Scat will; even though, one of their phone techs told me the only way to make a neutrally balanced crank was if someone knew magic /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif He was dead serious.
Regards,
Lynn
