R21 turbo w/LSD ....oil?

Can anybody tell me what sort of oil I should use to fill my renault 21 Turbo gearbox thats fitted with a limited slip diff? also approx how much? thanks

Simon, I've had good results with Redline 75W90 gear oil. It's pretty widely used here in the US in high performance and mild track applications. The 75W90 is designed for LSD's, whereas the 75W90NS is designed for open differentials.

I don't know how much you need in your renault box but typically you fill the box up to the bottom of the top filler hole. In other words, when the oil start to back flow out the top hole you're using to fill then it's full.

Simon, the recommended oil is supposed to be Castrol TAF-X. Or here down under we have the rebranded Castrol Syntrax. Its a fully synthetic oil. There is also a Mobil produce that has been recommended SHC680 I think it is ..... The oil type was selected because it is thought that the 'standard' crownwheel/pinion metal has been known to have longlivety issues when subjected to lots of continuous abuse. This is why Lotus had Renault change the material used for the CW/P for their later model Esprit gearboxes.
The other thing I was wondering is what kind of LSD you have? If its a Quaife then you wont need a special LSD oil because its a gear driven unit and not a friction clutch type.

if your R21 trans is fitted with a Quaife ATB diff, use Silkolene Silktran Syn 5, Qaife recommend this oil for their ATB. From my own experience I also advise use of this oil. CWP is under a great deal of wear inducing load when used in a GT40, this oil
performs well in extreme pressure situations and also gear changes are very smooth.
Capacity is just over 3 litres.

We recommend a couple of oils for tranaxles with LSD. Swepco 210 is a very good petroleum based product that has been very durable. If you are anticipating on really running this gearbox hard, check out the LE 9920. This is a full synthetic that I personally believe to be the best lubricant on the market currently. It is not cheap, but then the best products usually aren't.
