RCR on order 917

Hi Stuart ..... welcome to the forum.
I am super impressed that you are going with a 917. As you've already acquired a suitable registration then clearly you are intending to get the car road registered. I presume you've either purchased (or downloaded) the IVA manual and are studying in great detail what it will take to make it compliant with the IVA requirements.
I'm sure you are aware that you've only got 4 years in which to get it road registered (unless you're going electric !!!).
Also be aware that the current government are considering aligning UK car legislation with that of the EU. That would mean that the imposition of Lane Assist, Parking Assist, etc, etc, would become a UK requirement. This would entail a huge re-write of the IVA test requirements.
Myself and others on this forum are in contact with most UK 'kit' manufacturers and are following any proposed legislation changes.
The current good news is that none of the well known and respected suppliers have yet to receive any formal communication from government

Hi again Stuart ........ my broadband connection died as I was typing the message above, which is why it appears to end somewhat abruptly.
Late yesterday (and picked up by today's media) the government has made a blunt statement that it intends to go ahead with adopting EU car legislation. It intends to do this by devious means which will ovoid it being debated and voted on.
They have stated that 'emergency calling' and 'black box' breathalyser technology will be included.
Clearly all of this has massive implications in regard to IVA testing. However, this will all take a lot of time to be introduced. In the meantime you need to crack on at great speed and it get through IVA before any of these changes come into force.
We have a thread on this forum whereby myself of other knowledgeable people are doing our best to track these changes, therefore you may care to dip into that thread as the months roll by to keep up to date.

Stuart, as you live in the UK, why did you choose the RCR 917 and not the UK build ICON 917 ?
Hey JP, in short, cost and repeatability. RCR has now banged out quite a few (with a small batch lens), which gives me some confidence that the platform has a multi-year R&D in it. I also like the tub design; it's much safer than the original. The Icon car, after speaking to Dave at Icon, only really had two options: turn key (£200K plus) or a diagram and some laser-cut tubes. RCR offer that nice halfway house of a roller. All of these factors help make my choice.

Steve, thank you, all excellent points. I have spent the last 8 months and the previous two builds getting to grips with the IVA. One being a factory five Cobra. The time scale is truncated, but I intended to get it tested ASAP, I figure there is likely to be some slack once you are in the retest cycle. Given that the Icon guys got their build (full original replica) through the IVA and were great about sharing the process and changes required, I feel like I have a head start. The next government could well unwind the Europe thing, I will have a chat with Nigel LOL!. Here is hoping RCR can get it to me sooner rather than later.
