So close and yet so far!

Re: So close and yet so far! - GOOD NEWS!

The front suspension is 85-87 Corvette on mine. Will the newer ones take later models? From the ones I have seen while up on a rack, apear to be the same. I didn't do any measurements. I hope they have someone else doing their welding of the panels. I don't remember any suspension fotos

Bill Bayard: I was wondering if there are any updates on a US based distributor for DRBs, so these hassles with importing the cars don't occur.

Re: So close and yet so far! - GOOD NEWS!

Jon,

As you know, I had considered becoming a U.S. distributor
for GT40 Australia, however, my business plans have sent
me off in a completely different direction.
I am unaware of an effort by anyone else, to sell or distribute
DRB's, here in the States.
I hope that GT40 Australia will at least become affiliated with
a broker in the U.S., sometime soon, to facilitate sales and importation here.

Distributors/dealers are a two edged sword...
Nice to have them handle paperwork...but you DO PAY FOR IT.
And near as I can tell...kit/car cost increases 10% - 30%
to cover their expense/profit. And you lose the option
of ordering direct from the Manufacturer.

Good on you Colin, congratulations on confounding the petty
bureaucracy. No consolation to you but we suffer from the same fools in OZ. Drives you mad dealing with people who get a kick out of being obstuctive.
Anyway now the fun begins look forward to seeing the pics.

It\'s HERE

Container was delivered today at noon. Thanks to Dave Harris for the ramp idea and for the caster wheels - it all worked out great and in a short but sweaty hour the kit car was in the garage.
All parts grouped by major category and placed in boxes; every part nicely labeled. I have done a once over on the inventory - it looks like everything is here - except for three/four back ordered parts that I had been prewarned about. Lots of pictures were taken; I'll post a few sometime tomorrow.
Thanks to all for your encouragement.
Now comes the assembly questions. Looking forward to that part. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: It\'s HERE - Photos

What type shifter are you using for the G50?
Thanks

Re: It\'s HERE - Photos

Nathan,

Colin will probably busy caressing his new "baby" for the next few days!

GT40 Australia cars use a combination of rod and cable shift.
The cable pushes/pulls the shift rod in and out,
while a series of bearing mounted rods, cam levers, and
rose jointed rods, rotate the shift rod. Sounds complex,
but really isn't. It shifts just like a gated shifter.
I can e-mail you photos, if you'd like.

Re: It\'s HERE

Colin,
Congratulations!!!! I know how you feel when it first arrives. The fun begins now. Keep me aprised of how things are going, both good and bad. I will probably be close to you with my build except I have been slowed due to trying to fix up and sell my father in laws house ( passed away in Jan. ). Carrying two morgages will definitely slow you way down. I am now trying to build a brake for the new panels. If anyone would like the design I can email them. It is very simple and its limitations is that it cannot make a pan type bend.( bend on all 4 sides ) But if different size pieces (jaws) were made it probably could do it. At any rate keep me informed and I will do the same.
