If you are manually bleeding brakes by pushing pedal try doing front and rear simultaneously. This allows MC to fully travel and not be limited by balance bar. If you are pressure bleeding only this is not necessary.
Mike, I also replaced the brake fluid on my early SPF not too long ago.
Unfortunately I'm heading out for work - so quick comments only.
To get to outer bleeding nipples I removed all four wheels to access the calipers easily.

I had a certain sequenz for bleeding the calipers - I will look that up later....
Overall bleeding was not too bad and I got all the old brake fluid out easily - however, proper bleeding (getting all the air out) was more time consuming.
