Strange Aircraft

Anybody have any idea what this is all about?

Only a guess but perhaps fuel pods.

 

They are apparently "tubercles" on an Alaskan bush plane designed to generate vortices to aid low speed lift…

Very good Brian we have a winner! Although its appears that it has more to do with icing than low speed lift.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention refers to aircraft wing surfaces and more in particular to a configuration of an aircraft surface for improving its aerodynamic performance in icing conditions.

This appears to be the same aircraft with more symmetrical "tubercles" and even spacing.....

Helping with low speed lift and icing seem like a natural fit for Bush planes like this.

Why, it can probably fly so slow & low that you could jump out if you got scared, probably safer than a homebuilt car on the road with all the other crazy folk...
