UK Rubber Source

Thought I would start looking for tyres as i'd like to start body fitting soon. I will need rubber to fit 15" wheels, 8" front, 10" rears.

Thanks in advance

Avons would fit your requirement nicely. Fully road legal so should help you with SVA and they are of a decent speed rating. The range of tyres you want to look at are the CR6Zs.

Thanks Malcolm, from that Range info I found LongStoneTyres.com. From these people i figure the following would be a good combo

275/55/15 rears 10.82" wide, wall height 5.95", Dia 26.91"
225/65/15 fronts 8.86" wide, Wall height 5.76", Dia 26.51

So they should look good together (assuming my maths is right)

Also seems Avon are the only company that do both sizes in the same model tyre.

Only had a brief look on the web so if anybody knows different, please let me know

I would suggest you do not go for the 225 65 15 as it is too tall for most replicas. Damage to inside wheel arch liners is more likely. Which car do you have? The 215 60 15 is the normal choice. If you actually measure the foot print it has a wider tread than the 225. This has been confirmed to me by Avon themselves. It is a quirk of the moulds.

Ideally we need a 235 55 15 for the front. Avon are being worked on but don't hold your breath.

The dia of the 295 tyre is the same as the 275 as it shares the same mould. Either is ok for the rear in my books.

If you want to see lots of wheels and tyre combo's get to Brighton for the Speed Trials on this coming Saturday 8th Sept.

PM me if you want to chat further.

Hi Ant,

Malcolm steered me in the right direction with regards to this. I eventually went for the Avons, 215/60VR15's on a 9" rim Front and 295/55VR15's on a 12" Rear.
Malcolms also taken me out on track in his forty wearing the Avons and they grip like hell. They are quite a soft compound so won't last like a regular tyre but the sizes do work for a forty.

I've got a couple of pics of my delivery which shows off the tyre sizes quite well. The body is sitting high but you get the idea. My car has moved on a bit since these pics were taken but I've not got any better pics of the tyres.
