Vintage Glass Bowl Fuel Filters

I am trying to replicate an original GT40 with the glass bowl fuel filters. Is anyone using them? And where can I get them?

Thanks

Hi Bill,

Are you going for originality with regards to these filters? I've always been concerned about "glass" filters for Gas - - especially when these will be, essentially, in the engine compartment - if they break - you've got a mini molotov cocktail around multiple heat sources. Just a thought - -

cheers

Hi Bill,

If you plan track work with the car this might not be the thing to do. If the SCCA or NASA sanctions your track day, and many are since they use SCCA/NASA corner workers to staff it up, then you might be allowed to run. They look cool, but I'm using metal canister filters. I'm pretty sure our local BMW group that puts on a lot of track days would not allow it either, despite the fact that you can run with normal seat belts.

Spot on Ron!

MSA have banned them over here - you fail scrutineering if fitted. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Probably a good thing though - I remember one of Ray Christopher's on his 1st spyder cracking in the Isle of Man a few years back. It sprayed petrol out like a fountain for a few seconds till the pump was shut off - I grabbed the bowl, covering with my gloved hands till pressure dropped but the sight of petrol 'steaming off' on still hot'ish headers was a scary one I won't forget in a while...

Fit the metal for trackwork - refit the glass ones if necessary to show the car......

The originals were made by "FISPA" (an Italian company).

Googling, I found one picture.
