Water Pump??

It appears I have a small leak on my water pump

Is it considered an engine out job or should I attempt it using "keyhole"surgery through the hatch?

Or is Barrs leaks still the first option?

Cheers

Hi Ian

I hope I misread that and you didn't say, Barrs Leaks,

That stuff should only be used if you are stuck on the road with a minor leak and have no option left to get home.

It tends to gum up everything and is not a long term solution.

You should be able to replace the water pump via the bulkhead hatch quite easily without having to pull the motor.

The only cure for a leaking gasket or a seal is to replace it with a new one and know that you can rely on it rather than driving around with the nagging thought, is it holding and for how long.

Temporary fix's sometimes hold up while the car is driven slowly and sedately but fail as soon as you give it a bit of a push.

I learnt that lesson numerous times during my young and inexperienced days.

Dimi.

Yes I did - at least that is more correct than raw eggs! (They actually worked quite well)

I need to move my car today for some work that is planned and cannot be rescheduled

Saturday I collect and will start the pump replacement

It might actually be the water pump itself or the head gasket that leaks. If head gasket leaks bad enough, you'll notice that when you start your engine up after it has set fr a while, it seems to hesitate at several places as it cranks. You can tell if head gasket is leaking by taking off radiator cap, filling engine with water and starting engine.
