What is the extra hole for?

Looking at the Edelbrock Performer head. Can anyonetell me what the extra hole in the middle is for, as I don't see it on the RPM or other heads? Where does it go?

The extra hole is a EGR port.

Here is the carb intake manifold with the EGR hole on the carburetor mounting plate.

And here is a FI intake manifold with the EGR hole in the middle of the intake ports.

Brett,
you can get EGR and non EGR performer heads and manifold, different Edelbrock part numbers. RPM heads and manifolds are non EGR.

best regards
Dave

Its also the exhaust crossover port for the 'hot box' that is part of virtually every standard intake manifold along with most 'street' type performance alloy intakes.

If you decide to plug the hole, use a threaded tapered pipe plug, an unthreaded press fit metal plug can get pulled into the combustion chamber, and it makes a mess.

Pat I WAS using your incident as an example. Glad you're back on the road. Now small blocks aren't all that bad are they? At least you don't have to trailer them everywhere.
Haven't heard much about the Swift lately???? Are you getting ready to campaign it. And marriage is just an adjustment. Many benefits.
