Windows 7

i don't blame you, 3 IT techie colleagues of mine have done the same and i use an Apple now (although with an XP virtual machine).

One spent nearly 2 days trying to do what should have been simple networking stuff, rebuild with XP took less than an hour and was rock solid and fast.

But one has been using W7 since an early release candidate and want hear a thing against it!!!

I bought a Win 7 machine when my old apple(8 years) got soooooo slow I could not take it any more!

It is great - fires up quick and runs everything I need at home

But some drivers are missing - like for a HP1009 printer

System is on Home Premium and speaking to our tech in the office that is fine but you need the office professional if you want to make it talk to servers etc in an office environment Win 7 Home Prem £75 Office Prem £350

So perhaps not yet time for the swap in the office

forgot to mention the trouble they all had with drivers, even for a brand new printer bought at the same time!!!

The Printer I had was bought about 1 month before the new machine and still current stock in shops but no drivers available

My old PC was having some hiccups, so in a pre-emptive strike I bought a new one, and had my old hard drive put into a new small external hard drive so I still had all my data. The new PC has Windows 7, and I've found it quite different (was running Windows XP Professional), but good. It boots up fast, and immediately recognised all my connected equipment (cordless keyboard and mouse, HP printer, broadband internet, etc.), except for myold Canoscan N670U scanner. However, Canon don't seem to have drives yet for their scanners which are compatible with W7.
Overall, I'm quite happy with W7. Recently got Vista on my network PC at work, and I definitely prefer W7. Overall, though, I hate these change-overs and would have been happy staying with XP if my computer had gone on for ever.

Had Vista on my laptop and it was cr!p.
Recently installed W7 and it is a great improvement all round.
All I need to do now is get a refund from MS for the Vista that did not do what it said on the tin!
Long wait I fear........................:furious:

I purchased an Apple MacBook Pro last month - very slick unit with great display and high spec too. My first Apple unit and I must admit i'm smitten...

It's just so easy to use, no lockups or freezing and very fast and even more amazing will run very well for 8+ hours on battery!:stunned:

I also have some pieces of software that were not cheap and run under MS OS, so for them I've installed VMWare Fusion 3 and run Vista Ultimate as a Virtual PC, which allows me to run the older PC software - Perfick!

What really amused me is that the Virtual PC on the Mac runs even faster than the Vista did on the Asus Laptop I used to use and that wasn't slow.

Windows 7 - not tried it yet and now with the Mac I may just not bother....

Windows 7 works great....Easy to use, lots of cool features, laptop/desktop configurations are inexpensive for what you get, and there's tons of compatible hardware (far more than for Apple).

W7 = Annoying and a classic example of changing stuff because you can not because you need to.

Plus, W7 is a bit of a Nanny. I like to control stuff myself. Best OS ever apart from Mac, is Linux followed closely by W2000.

64 bit is good though.
