F1 in 2011

I found race #1 of this new season quite boring and pretty much predictable.
Same as last year, but this season will have many more technical failures IMO.

Interesting that Massa doesn't get a nod for making the top 5 from anyone. Hmmmm, He did appear to have that "blank stare" appearance when observed by me on the telly. Is he finished as a decent driver even though he's part of one of the *top teams? (*still to be determined for ths year!) Did his mishap last year really have that much of an impact on him that many think he might be done?

I must admit that after watching the first race I'm afraid to think of how much better the Red Bull with Vettle is over the rest of the field. On US TV Vettel got sparce air-time because he was so far ahead of second. IMHO thats indicative of what the director thought of his car........ miles ahead so why bore people with watching him trounch the field. Scarey to think about. Can the others catch him?

Here's my crystal ball tuppence prediction: 1, Vet, 2, Alo 3, Ham, 4, Web 5, Mas

Jimmy,

I thnk the Massa blank scare also comes from the fact that he KNOWS he is the second driver in the team, sure in the knowledge that he will have to give way to Alonso just about any time that the team feels it is to their advantage.

ultimately that means that he'll never win a championship with Ferrari (not that I think he would anyway)...

So who will drive for McLaren in 2012?
Me thinks it may be Paul Di Resta and possibly Button though the latter has reverted to becoming a journeyman (Geselle man, Compagnon) It would be an intersting combination though as they are both quite smooth operators. With a change of tribe in the Woking team when Hamilton moves to RBR it could be the 'leg up' that Di Resta needs after languishing in the doldrums with the DTM series.

Sorry chaps - This is going the rounds so make of it what you will......

This article about the possible pairing of Vettel and Hamilton in 2012.
IMHO - if Didi Mateshitz decides he wants it, it will happen.

Helmut Marko is not ruling out making a move for Lewis Hamilton, perhaps as imminently as in time for the 2012 Formula One season.

After a recent round of speculation, during which Red Bull team boss Christian Horner described Hamilton as a "great driver", the 2008 World Champion insisted he is committed to McLaren.

But Hamilton also said in Australia: "Of course, I'm going to be in Formula One for some time, and you never know which way the wind will take you."

At Red Bull, Sebastian Vettel's future is firmly secure, but his current team-mate Mark Webber, who had a dire start to the 2011 season in Melbourne, is signed up only to the end of the year.

"First we have to see how the season goes for Mark and what he decides," Red Bull's Formula 1 consultant Marko told Sport Bild.

"Definitely with his aggression and his speed, Hamilton must always be a topic," the Austrian added.

"Our philosophy is to have the quickest drivers together in our team," said Marko.

Formula 1 Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone said he would be happy to see Vettel and Hamilton together at Red Bull.

"Both of them are a gift for Formula One, even more if they were in the same team," he said.

David, I read this too. IF Hamilton went to Red Bull I actually think it would be a real shame. He has been brought up in motorsport by Ron Dennis, and whilst he has given back most of what he received, I still think that patience is the order of the day. McLaren WILL get better, of that there's no doubt.

Cheers pal,

Graham.

The drivers are professionals with a limited amount of time to make their millions. The big teams are big business and show no loyalty or ethics to the drivers, so the drivers reciprocate in attitude. Romantic notions of loyalty and sticking with the team that gave you your first break have sadly gone out the window. In 2012 the top drivers will go where they or their management group perceive their best opportunity lies, a little thing like a contract will not stand in the way.

I agree Pete. I'm just an old romantic :embarassed:

I would like to think that Hamilton would be at least as loyal to Dennis/McLaren as he was to his father.

I saw on the news yesterday that Kimi Raikkonen is going to drive in a Nascar truck race. But then again it was April 1, so this may be a joke!

I have to wonder what the good-old-boys would think of English spoken in mono-tone?

Really, I fall asleep whenever I hear him, so I can't say for sure. No joke about the truck series. He will be running a limited number of races this season.

The global Formula One television audience is in decline, according to FIA President Jean Todt.

How long did he take to figure that out? I think he left his brain in Italy.

Apparently the Pirelli Wet tyre will not behave like the previous Drying Wet from Bridgestone. (The Pirelli will overheat and blister, comimg off in chunks whereas the Bridgestone used to run smooth until it almost resembled a slick in its handling characteristics). Advice - pit for inters or slicks depending on the conditions. The old adage - run the tyres that the conditions demand.
