My SL-Razor has arrived...

Thanks for all the help! This engine is a pain and no one in Vegas works on them. So I guess it's going to be a slow and painful learning process. Well, one day I'll get this thing running to 100% and maybe more! Until then, I have LOTS of work to do.

Edit: I have to admit that this car handles amazing. During test rides around the block, it's relatively easy to slide the rear end out through the corner (Top Gear style). It's like holding a tie rod in each hand and twisting your hips to slide whatever way you want it to go. It's simply outstanding!

I know your pain, I had an intermittent electrical fault with one of my motorbikes years back, I changed absolutely everything from coil packs to the speedo (SV650's link some of the ignition system through the speedo...) to the 'engine management', just about everything electrical was changed until I caved in and changed the one 'electrical' component left and that was the *entire* wiring loom....

Run sweet as ever since.... Then my 5 year old Toyota developed a fault in the wiring loom, fortunately this was a glaringly obvious fracture, UNfortunately this was an extremely expensive job!

Keep at it, you'll get there and then you can start fully enjoying it again!

This is from exocars:

Las Vegas track day- April 21

This is a heads up for everyone who will be in the Las Vegas region that weekend. Speedventures will be putting on the event at the Las Vegas classic course. It's an excellent road course that's a lot of fun and has an excellent asphalt surface.

Anyways, just putting this up because I will be there whether my car is running at 130hp (like last year) or 300hp (if I can get it running right). Since I know the course pretty well, (motorcycle track days), I won't be in need of an instructor. Therefore, for those of you that will be around, and have a helmet, come on over cause I'll be giving out rides around the track.

See ya there!!!

I talked to AutoWerks (works on LNF engine/builds to 700hp!!!) and they recommended a complete rebuild of the electrical bits. But until I take the plunge, I'll keep working on it as it sits. At least it's running well. Just not at 100%....

Yet!

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately, (since I have a lot of time on my hands between Doctor's appts), and Im seriously thinking of selling the SLR to put money away for an SLC. Time frame for when I would buy an SLC roller would be 2014-2015 time frame. Yeah, kind of a long ways away. But from now until then, Im going to finish up college (and have the military pay me to go to school...) and line up for a good job out here in Vegas (yeah.... RIGHT!). Hopefully, things turn around out here!

Basically, if I sell now, I can have my money work for me, instead of the car depreciating over time. Ive already discussed this with my other half and she supports whatever decision I make (so long as its not over-the-top crazy). Well, its either a Viper or an SLC. Id rather have the SLC!!!

I can admit that Im hooked to this car. Yes, the SLR is great. But the SLC is calling. And it has been since SEMA 2010. Seeing it in action at Thunderhill December 2010 was also a selling point.

So what do you all think? Anyone have any thoughts to add?

There's a very supportive group of SL-C builders here on the forum....and most of them located in TX, so not too far to venture for looks & grins.

I keep dreaming of a single-seat, center-steering SL-C. Lots of room in the side pods and what better view could there be?

Yeah.....I know....anything can be done if you have the cash....:furious:..grumble, grumble, curses, curses....

I don't know, tho...tossing the SL-R around would sure eliminate some stress...you know how stressful college can be...

Keep it through college and sell it when done? If so, it could end up costing you little extra above and beyond the interest you lose on the sale.

So, there's that question, again....how much is it worth to ya?

Gotta admit, a cool toy like that in my 20's would have been TOO MUCH!

Cheers, and good luck making the decision!

I think thats what the Nemesis is for. But I see where you're coming from.

This is why Im going to finish college. There really isnt that many great paying jobs in this town w/o a degree unless you "know somebody".

Thats what my HP2 MegaMoto is for. I think the difference between selling it now versus 2-3 years from now would be 10k or more (including the investments if sold now...). I really want to get a full roller SLC by summer of 2015 because I could at least start the basics of the build. Engine and trans would come in a year or two later.

Sigh........ I have a lot to think about!

If you don't mind me asking, why did you get an SL-R if the SL-C had been calling you too? Does one get over the open top go-kart feeling on the street? I always wondered if I got a Razor myself how long it would take for me to get over it and jump on the SL-C ship...

I've spent quite a bit of my life driving "open-air" cars, so to speak, from sand buggies to motorcycles to Cobras. It's a different experience from driving an enclosed car, not one you get tired of and want to move on to a more enclosed environment, it's just different.

I could see the SL-C being more "usable" than an SL-R.....as long as the cabin can be made watertight. Add A/C (I can't imagine how you could drive it much without A/C with all that glass!!) and a heater and you might well have a 4 season car, which is something the SL-R would have a hard time promising.

The SL-C is a different car altogether....not better, not worse, just different.

I'd like to have both!!!!

Cheers!

Doug

It's a fun car to drive. My major issue is with the engine. The chassis, suspension, steering, etc, are dialed in. The GM LNF is just a PITA!!!!

After talking to a number of people during the last couple days, the best thing to do is to keep it, (for now). Also, autocross is the only major racing events in this area (perfect for the SLR). I guess the next thing for me to do is order the Helm's guide for this engine.

Hey Justin,

I got my LNF and wiring harness back from CBM and they had it on the run stand...Once I get it drop in the car I'm going to take it back up to CBM and they are going to put it on the Dyno and get it all tuned in.
The wiring harness and PC cost me 2k.

Or you can call Chuck...He has put a few of these LNF motor in Air Boats and he know all about these motors and know how to get them working with the stock wiring harness.

This is his number 352-330-1015

And this is a link to one of the Air Boats he did
LNF Powered Airboat

The guy at CBM is Chris
He is saying they are getting 350hp out of this motor
This is their website CBM Motorsports - Custom Built Motors - Offroad, Marine, and Hot Rod Engines

Hope this helps you out with your motor

Thanks for the info. I'm also considering picking up some GM hhr ss shop manuals. My engine came out of an hhr. I think they run about 150 and they probably show wiring diagrams better than anything I've seen so far online.

One of Chucks LNF came out of an HHR SS....You should call him and tell him what is going on, I know he would be able to help you.
It would save you alot of time and money

This post was supposed to be filled with pictures of the SLR in Death Valley. But, I forgot to charge my camera battery. So I'll keep this short and sweet.

Three hundred miles! This is the farthest I've ever driven the car without stopping or having an emergency plan. It ran very well with no issues. It sucks that I'm not running at max power, but today was a day where I didn't need 300hp to make this a good drive. The car was at altitudes of -120' to a chilling 5500'. My route included the main road that runs through Death Valley, about 50 miles long. It also included a road that rises to over 5000' to Dantes View. It is directly over Death Valley and the view is amazing. As a matter of fact, if you look opposite of the valley (looking northeast) you can see Mt Charleston, the mountain that dominates the western side of Las Vegas.

Well.... Next time I'll get pics so you can see what I got to see today.

I did the drive from the above post with a couple of my helo friends; another gunner and a couple of flight engineers. Interestingly enough, we're all survivors...

These are the only pics I got before the battery died. This was at the oldest bar and oldest store in Clark County, NV. FYI; Las Vegas and Boulder City (created from the Hoover dam construction) is in Clark County.

And... the camera died. Sorry! Maybe next weekend...

I had some time off this afternoon, so I drove the car up to Red Rock for more pics. Just for the heck of it, I drove without a helmet today. The wind hits me at about eye level. So anyone below 6'2'' wont have any buffeting while driving up to hiway speeds with the set up I have.

So heres the goods. Ive included a "point of view" pic as well. Enjoy!
