LS3 oiling question.

I need to get the oil out of the engine and back for my accumulator to work. I noticed just above the filter there is aplate the looks like when removed, there are holes.

Is this a place to connect external lines? If not is there an adaptor you could recommend?

Lingenfelter, Katech, and others make adapters that I think attach at that location and do what you want.

on the block just behind the oil filter and bypass plate you should see a threaded plug up into the oil circuit. You could also pull that plug and put an adaptor/line in its place.

unless I am mistaken, the Accumulator section is not a circuit, it's a spur which dead ends at the accumulator. So it wouldn't need in and out lines, it would only need one line.

But I've never used an accumulator, so don't take my word for it.

That would be a good location to connect your accumulator.
Be careful tho, as those 2 ports in the block are actually an oiling circuit that needs to connect to each other. The oil cooler adapter would be a bad choice if you capped off 1 of the ports.
An adapter block with a large slot machined to connect the ports with a single threaded hole in the center to connect to the accumulator should do the job.

So the easiest way would be to use the plugged hole. Your right, it isn't a circuit. Has anyone ever done it that way or can someone confirm that it will work?

If you are going to use an external oil cooler you can use any of the adapters mentioned and put the accumulator in a "T" on the return side. Put a one-way between the cooler and the "T".

I wasn't planning on a cooler but it might be an option I should keep open.

I thought the filters all had check valves. Would you slill need one in line? If I don't run a cooler, and if I could use that threaded port by the filter, it would be a very clean application.

Any thoughts?

Dean, as far as I understand an Accusump is like a huge hypodermic syringe, all fluid movement into and out of the syringe occurs through one oil line. I think spud's comment above is correct.

Found this oiling system diagram, looks like the plug above the oil filter is the main galley. I would think the Accusump would plumb directly into that port.

Well, I took out that plug. I just don't think there is any way to get a fitting into that hole. I think it is a 16mm thread but I don't see how to get a 90 on to what ever you might screw in there. It would be the a great place but I don't see how to make it happen. :thumbsdown:

Yep, what Doc sez. I had this configuration on my car, but placed it in line with an external oil filter mount/adaptor - with one way check valve.

Not sure if this still applies to the LS7, but the earlier LS1/2 had an additional threaded port on the forward end (blue arrow) of the horizontal gallery as well, that I use to "pre-oil" for long inactivity, and would appear to be an appropriate location for the accumulator. In my particular application, the rear (red arrrow) threaded port is where my dry-sump injects the oil back into the block.
