Dambusters

And I second that.
My intention in posting the thread originally was purely to highlight what were basically volunteers, went through, and many never came out of.
My Father was in 76 Squadron, the squadron that Guy Gibson, the Sq Leader of the newly formed 617 Dambusters came from. That was entirely my interest.
But of course, there always has to be some ill informed prat to queer the pitch...

Oh dear. Don't forget Rule 1 & read things properly. Strategic bombing 1, population centre bombing 0.

No more on this thread. Start a new one.

Marcus,
It's simple. Your relatives voted in to government mass killers, such as little adolf, Himmler, Julius Striecher etc, so in response we employed mass killers like' Bomber' Harris and the USAAF 8th Air Force.
It's simple, we won and now your generations have learnt their lessons.
Simple. Who has the bigger stick...answer in the history books.
It's just like in the school playground. Don't fuck with the big boys.
Have a nice day, as my American cousins would say.
Hey, stop complaining,
After all, I think it started in Poland with your country's decision to set up a lot of grey/green tents...
:lipsrsealed:

Charlie,

many thanks for telling me about my relatives. I wasn´t aware of you knowing them better than me but so be it.

As for the big boys: Point taken, the USA were much too big.

As for Poland and the history books: As far as our both countries are concerned, you´ll be amazed to find out that it all started with England declaring war on Germany and not other way round.

As for the civil victims on both sides: If it is only allowed to commemorate the victims on one side then to me that´s political correctness at it´s best.

As for your father and all the other airmen: Rest assured that over the years I´ve been to many places commemorating allied airmen and I do think they deserve respect and gratitude for their courage and sacrifices. If I said anything that (obviously) offended you then I do apologise and I mean it.

Again, I´m sorry if I have said anything that offended you. But if you nonetheless and for whatever reason wish to take this further, please speak to Dave for my private email address.

Marcus

Wow, Basil Fawlty all over again there for a sec - "You started it" - "No I didn't" - "Yes you did, you invaded Poland"...

Why is it that the only real lessons to be learned from war are the ones we always forget...

Sad.

Hi Tim,

now that you mention it...as far as I´m concerned you´re absolutely right.

I shall stop here and hope to somehow solve this matter with Charlie at some other place.

Best,

Marcus

Seriously Marcus, are you having a laugh? Because we came to the aid of countries that Germany invaded, the English are officially credited with starting WWII!?

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahaha

By that logic, all Burglars are innocent, it is the fault of the Police for arresting them after they have robbed your home!
