Fuck the Israeli/Hamas bullshit. Who really cares? The land was Palestinian and the Israelis (lots of Jewish Americans) moved in. Unless you've actually been there I think you cannot make any comments.
But there are much much bigger issues in the world now. The destruction of the Malaysian B777 - which has to be laid at Putins door - has ratcheted up the ante fifty times more than the baby interfada between Muslims and Jews squabbling over a few square miles of shitty sand and scrubland. The bodies from the Boeing are scattered over a bigger area than the west bank.
Turn your back on anything Russian, don't believe as single thing your politicians tell you, your CIA in the U.S.A. and our Intelligence ServiceS know basically nothing. Be adamant that your leaders will not lead you into believing the only way forward involves death. the 290 ish passengers and crew that died could end up being the catalyst for thousands of young men dying just as they have in Iraq, Afghanistan, and soon to be Syria if we don't put a stop to these local wars.
They have been at each others throats since the end of WW2 - just leave them to it. If the cossacks deserve a bucket of sunshine along with the Iraqis , the Syrians, and who ever else, then so be it. Do you see the Bahrainis, the Saudi's, the Omanis and all the rest of those tossers getting their hands
dirty? No - they are all at the Farnborough Air Show buying more outrageous jets and weapon systems and racing their lambos around the streets of London.
Write to your leaders. Tell them what you want. Don't let them tell you we have to go to war. We - the civilised world - can sort the Russians out and bring them to their knees. It might take a little while but look at what has happened to a lot of their armed forces over the last twenty or so years. Just stop trading with them all together. Don't even have a Grand Prix there. Ask their Embassies to close or reduce to just a couple of people.
We might need to invoke the help of China along the way but they cannot survive without the western economies and so they are almost committed to the west.

Pick up your pens - they are much stronger than the guns will ever be.

Not so sure about this David, the rusky`s supply a third of Europe`s gas needs and interruptions of supplies could hold far reaching financial implications for us. Looks like Reagan back in the eighties was right after all :) They are also more than capable of building their own military hardware or pretty much anything they currently buy from the west which if they were forced to they would. There are also other sales hungry countries that would quite happily stand in europes boots. I too would like to add that none of my finest home made 75p a bottle wine was spilled or mistreated in the writing of this post:thumbsup:

I'm with you on this David, fuck Putin and write to your Prime Minister/ President and tell him we don't want a war and we don't want Putin coming to the G20 about to be held in Brisbane.
Also WTF was Malaysian Air doing flying over a war zone? Answer to save fuel and money. Fuck their bean counters too.
Several glasses of Chardonnay were severely damaged writing this.

I can assure any doubters on this thread that from personal experience, David does NOT need fortifying with wine in order to expound on any subject he feels passionate about.

In fact, the reverse is true. Vikings are constantly warned about the perils of over imbibing: to wit:

"Byrþi betri berrat maþr brautu at,
an sé manvit mikit;
auþi betra þykkir þat í ókunnun staþ,
slíkt es válaþs vera."

A surfeit of alcohol tends to dull the mind and leads to inefficient torture & slaughter.

So those that can stop using gas for 1/3 of the week/ month/ year. I can exist without gas 100% if I chose to.
Robert, Stand up and be strong instead of coming up with excuses.
Next thing someone will find and excuse for Russian behaviour. For Christ's sake they did this before and shot down a Korean aircraft(KAL 007) inbound to Seoul in September 1983 and also forced another Korean Airlines down over Mumansk. Maybe the encumbant in the Whitehouse had a bit more guts than the current excuse.
But our tosspot in the palace of Westminster , Cameron, is just as bad.
Looking back at shootdowns over Ukraine, the aeroplane carrying 78 people (Israelis going to Russia) in October 2001. Someone has to be brought to book irrespective of whether they have loads of gas or not.

I think it appropriate that unless you are under the influence you cannot comment on this post. At the moment, I'm not drunk but I think hung-over still qualifies.

By the way, I've worked with Palestinians in the area on a transaction for the imperialist warmongering, cause of everything unholy, U.S. military and let's say I marvel at the tolerance the Israelis have shown thus far. But unless you are a Palestinian or Israeli or lived in the Iron Age when the Kingdom of Judah was established, you shouldn't comment on it.

As for the SA-11 that is being presented as a "possible source" of the crash, it has in addition to a search and tracking radar, optical sights as well as IR detection systems. It takes four people to fire it. You don't just step in it and start pushing buttons to ripple fire a couple of missiles off the rails. But unless you've trained on antiaircraft missile systems, you shouldn't comment on it.

How about being drunk AND having had training on anti-aircraft missile systems?

I think you just nailed it Pat...:furious:

Scott, the article isn't totally accurate as far as the complexity of firing the system. It's suggestion that the system was operated by "...a bunch of fat, drunken rebels" that were able to look at a video game and then fire a missile is pretty ridiculous.
That's like saying you could run NORAD's mission control after learning to play Space Invaders at an arcade. The Russians also take transponder codes far more seriously than the article suggests for the preservation of their own aircraft if nothing else. Remember Donetsk is close to the Russian border.
The Russians are trying to distance themselves from this mess and the media story line of "...a bunch of fat, drunken rebels" capturing the system from the Ukraine army, taking a quick tutorial online and accidently splashing a civilian aircraft without a Russian technical advisor to be found really stretches the imagination.

It should be noted that two weeks before the Malaysian Airliner tragedy, Gen. Philip Breedlove, head of U.S. European Command, confirmed that anti-aircraft weapons were part of the armed support being provided by Moscow to separatist groups fighting in eastern Ukraine. Along with the weapon deliveries, Breedlove also said that training missions being carried out by Russian forces along the eastern Ukrainian border included the use of vehicle-borne anti-air missiles.
There is simply no escaping the fact the Russians are deeply complicit in this horror.

Not trying to make any type of "statement" ... I posted the link for everyones enjoyment only. The underlined sections in the article go much deeper into the story. Take from it what you will.

Yeeeeup...one would have to be a complete moron
to believe otherwise.

And yet, what price will Russia/Putin likely pay? My bet is N-O-N-E. Z-E-R-O. There will BE NO consequesces at all.

Why? Because Putin 'has the West's number', so to speak. He knows he's dealing with completely gutless, spineless, paper tigers.

(So does Iran. E.g: 'Deadline reached on nuke talks with the West...'N-O-T-H-I-N-G accomplished...soooooooo the "talks" get a 4 month extension(!!!)...and when that 4 months is up there still will have been nothing accomplished - except for the fact Iran will be that much closer to having a nuke...that is IF the Israelis haven't bombed the crap out of Iran's nuke facilities by then. [I'm astonished they haven't done so already. But, mark my words - they WILL if they feel it's the only option...and they'll do it in a heartbeat at that point.])
