Grant's SL-C Build tread

Finished up the belt tensioner and installed it on the engine it pretty stout can't see there being any issues of it letting up on the tension. made up a hose bypass for the water pump should do it trick.

seems like it would have been easier/cheaper to just buy the $5 hose recirculation loop hose piece from autovalue =)

...and then trim the hose a bit to make the whole thing hug the block closer.

But, there's no question Grant's piece looks a whole lot more 'trick'.

Thanks guys, yes Alex your right it would have been easier to buy a rubber hose but I had other ideas at the time I was making that part I was going to put the engine water temp sensor in it so if I ever needed to change the pump I wouldn't have to drill and tap a new hole in it but later change my mind. it also will work better with the AN fittings I installed into the pump.

I agree, great work. And if easier was the idea, how many would be building these unbelievable cars. When I pull the trigger I want mine to be one of a kind and things like this make it one of a kind.

Excellent fabrication! That hose bypass is a work of art!

I have a stupid question:
What is wrong with the way I did it? (see photo) Will I have a big problem?
My rationale was that, if I did have a heater, the heater flow control valve would be closed most of the time anyway, so no re-circulation. Am I missing something here?

Thanks guys, and congratulations on a great build Grant!

David at the very least the heater coolant pipes at the water pump should be routed in a loop. I can't remember the reason but I think it has to do with the correct operation of the thermostat.

The design of the heater control valve we use has it returning the coolant in a loop when the valve is closed.

That's one fabulous dry sump setup!

Hi David yes It does have to be in a loop I did the same thing and was later told by an engine builder, it had to be bypassed and not blanked off.

Spent a lot of time working out wiring issues, pretty much everything that could be wrong was, did a lot of work on the body once I got into it the glass was quite thin so I had to thicken up a lot of areas. I was hoping to get a lot more done but had to put things on hold to put my parents into a nursing home it was very time consuming it was more work then building one of these cars LOL.
as well as working on numerous house renos. Hope to get back on it here soon.
I did however get it up and running and drove it around the block sounds good, I'm pretty sure I can live with the rumble : ) tried to put up a video but it didn't work it has a nice deep note with a lumpy cam.

Thanks for your replies regarding the plugs vs the loop for the heater-delete. Didn't mean to hijack your thread.

I just spoke to Katech and they just plug them on the track-only cars, like I did on my engine for my LMP-1. Apparently it works both ways. I knew I had seen them blocked before. Attached is a photo from the Bill Dailey website, who made my drysump system.
Thanks,
David

installed the wheel wells they were a bit of work, the rear inner side panels did not fit so I made new custom ones out of Alum they worked very well.

after spending a few weeks on body work, I sent the car to a friend of mine Ken Raichel to get the body fitting closer to perfect. Ken might be one the the best body guys in Western Canada I was lucky to have been able to get him to work on it as he's very much in demand 90 hours later he had it in Primer and looking like it should. I will take it back to him for the final sand and paint.
