Reliable investigative sources in California say that radical Muslims are planning to go on a rampage in the City of Los Angeles, killing everyone who is a U.S. citizen.

Police fear the death toll could be as high as 9

This is absolutely correct Doug. Jihadists make up a tiny fraction of Muslims, just the same as fanatical monks make up a tiny fraction of Buddhists, or white supremacists make up a tiny fraction of Christians. All of these tiny groups have been guilty of atrocities in the past, with many ongoing. It is not just the West that is the target. Look at Kenya, Beirut, the Russian airliner... the list goes on. It is a war of ideologies, but, my understanding is that the ideology of the Jihadist is not the same as the ideology of the vast majority of Islam.

Alienating the 99.9% of benevolent Muslims will do the cause no good whatsoever. Their way of life is also under threat. As Doug said, this is a world problem and we need to tackle it as a united world.

My neighbour is Muslim and is as outraged about what is happening as any of you on here. His little girl is my 6 year old granddaughter's best friend at school. Should I tell her that her friend's family are nasty people? I think watching the pair of them playing together is a much more desirable way forward.

I agree with what you say except for the minority of .1%, low estimates are 6% of 1.6 billion, which would translate to about 96,000,000. So it's not 20k or 30k running around with AK47s. And we need to tackle it with the help of good Muslims, they can't just sit back and watch, if they do, they become part of the problem.

I, for one, think Jack's post was perhaps the most persuasive in our entire discussion...although I do not share his perception of BO. OK...BO might have missed the moment of silence on purpose, but I doubt it because I have not heard him express anything but sympathy for the French AND dedication to finding and punishing (ala Jihadist John) those responsible for the atrocities in Paris. Perhaps he was late for good reason...can you imagine how difficult it must be to get someplace...ANYPLACE...on time in Paris in light of the recent occurrences?

Before y'all point out that in his book he said he would somehow favor Muslims, think about yourselves. Ever written something and then changed your mind for good reason at a later date? I know I have!

Keep in mind "Doug's Corrolary": Everyone is entitled to screw up, and everyone is entitled to redemption!

No ire here Larry, but I have to ask Doug, if you find Jack's post persuasive, it does beg the question as to why your own FBI would say that greater than 94% of terrorist acts on US soil, from 1980 until 2008, are attributed to non-Muslim groups. In Europe the authorities say that, up until 2013, greater than 98% of terrorist acts on their patch are attributable to non-Muslim groups?

I would guess that the average US citizen has not heard of the majority of these, but consider ETA, FARC, Shining Path, CIRA, RIRA, Golden Dawn, FLNC, and the many dozens of other recognised terrorist groups that plague Europe, Africa, the US, India, Myanmar, Japan, South America, and a heap of other countries. None of them are Muslim. The middle bit of Jack's post under "Think of it" is not correct. There are conflicts between all manner of religious groups everywhere.

Ask yourself, how much coverage does the media give terrorist acts by non-muslims? Very, very little. That does not mean they do not occur. Hell, in the US you have more chance of being shot by a fellow American than you have of falling victim to a Muslim terrorist, but for some reason, that is acceptable.

And before anyone starts tarring me with the "Liberal" brush, as I have said on more than one occasion here, I have little interest in politics. However, if you really wanted to label me, I voted for NZ's current government, which is slightly right of centre, so I guess that put me in the conservative camp. Just my 2c worth.

Brian, one of the things I dislike the worst is that we kill our neighbors in astonishing numbers...here near Houston, TX (a city of about 5 million) the local news starts each day with the prior day's homicide count. I do NOT find that acceptable!!!

I just a week ago returned from my family home in a remote area of one of our Midwestern states. They had a murder about 7 years ago, the first they had in about 30 years. I was living out of state and missed the whole brouhaha...I will soon move back there and relish the 23 years before the next one is predicted.

BTW...this area is so remote that the nearest McDonalds is 32 miles away...the nearest WalMart is 90 miles and the nearest airport capable of accommodating jet airliners is 220 miles away. It is a safe bet that there are no Jihadists there.
