A Dutch hello!

Hi guys! I love this blog. I'm a design director for an OEM, but I love classics too. Other than designing cars, I love to build one myself.
I'm really into buying a Gt40, and actually have 2 competitors in my mind. An RCR, or a Tornado.

What are the pros and cons of both? Which one would be more easy to build, which one is more expensive? I would buy the most complete packages from both. Of course I have many other questions on transmissions (UN1, on the Tornado...) and engines(302 or 351 and anyone made them biturbo? ). I hope to find my answers out here.

I do know that I won't use it on the track, but only on the street. And I like the adrenaline of accelerations! So I don't want little horsepower. I'm used to an Audi RS4 biturbo... Nice, but not enough. This is of course a good start.

You might concider a build one with registration.
There one for sale in Leeuwarden.

These days its very hard to get a legal registration for a kit car in Holland. You have to comply with the newest emission rules otherwise you will pay the bill. So Ecoboost or electric power or diesel otherwise BPM can raise to €60.000 for not compliant emission vehicles. That kitcar builder in Flevoland can tell you all about it.

Otherwise how about SouthernGT. Their kits are top notch. They can even arange UK iva for you.
I have been to SouthernGT in may of this year and can recoment them highly. Very helpfull and good quality. They won't sell you things thats are worthless.

I am rebuilding a KVA with mk2 body but I am still running backwards as everything I dismantle seems to be pretty worn out. Time consuming and money consuming. Almost at the last bolds now......

Makes us sometimes wonder what the f..k did we bought.. deffo not as advertised.
We won't give up. We will build the car.

So concider a runner instead of a kit. Mobile.de , pistonheads , gt40 enthiousiast club are your sources to find a runner.

Stay away from GT Forte!!

Hi and welcome ... I have just completed a Tornado . Very happy with the kit . The compleat package Too . It went together very well and the finish is also very good . You have got to do your searching into what one you would like to build .

Thanks for your reply and feedback. I could actually import it as well in Italy, so I should check how much that would cost.

I am affraid JP is right.
It will be very difficult in the Netherlands, even to register a runner.
I was very lucky to get mine registered 1972.
So be carefull before you buy

I imported mine in 2010.
I made an appointment with RDW in Elsloo. When I got there they tod me that I should have gone to Lelystad.
Nevertheless they helped me, but they wanted to register it as a 2003 or 2004 car, the period it was completely rebuild.
I didn't agree, because that would mean it has meet the regulations of 2003, import tax, it wouldn't be considered an oldtimer, that means roadtax etc. Eventually they did register it 1972 as it was in the English documents.
So I am very lucky.

No. Not yet. Making lists of what I wish nd what is needed, based on 2 models. The Tornado and Southern GT.
See what the final cost will be. Pro's and con's. And then decide.
It's a tough job, and I think before deciding, I might make a trip to visit both companies....
