302 Fuel pump cam question

Just a quick question!

When fitting electric fuel pumps , does this allow you to get rid of the Fuel pump eccentric cam unit fitted onto the end of the timing gear?,

or does this perform some sort of balancing?

Thanks!

Just fit a fuel pump blanking plate. If you are keen you could grind off the pump eccentric cam to improve the rotational inertia, but most people just leave them

The 302 Ford used a bolt on fuel pump eccentric that you can just delete if so desired, or leave it in place. Either way, if your timing chain cover has a provision for the fuel pump, you will need to put a block off plate over the hole.

Thanks Guys, i wanted to delete it because the cam dowel supplied with my Cam isnt long enough to retain the timing gear and eccentric, so thats good news!

The eccentric can be removed if desired. In its palce use a large thick hardened washer and a shorter dowel pin (in the cam)so that when the center bolt in the cam is tightened the dowel pin does not prevent (the washer) it from clamping flat against the face of the cam gear. Than as mentioned, cover the opening where the mechanical pump would normally mount.
It is easier and less expensive to change the pin in the cam to a longer one than do the above and purchase, and wire an electric pump.
