another icon passes away

William "Grumpy" Jenkins passed away today, in Pennsylvania. He was a great drag racing driver and engine builder, and not grumpy in actual fact. Sad week for motor racing, with him and Alan Mann gone, both of them. I remember models of Grumpy's cars (Grumpy's Toy, I think) when I was a kid. And his giant-killing Chevy II, with a SBC in it, that beat MoPars. Big MoPars at that.

Yes, Bill Jenkins too has also passed on.. Actually it was on March 29th that he died. He was 81 years old. No cause of death listed in any of the rags...

Most memorable to me were his Vega race cars.
