Ok Ron, so BOTH of your cars look great!

Did you take your Pantera down RT 32 through Eldersburg in maybe December/early Jan???

Yes,it was me.I'm over there all of the time in the warmer months.
I'll have to stop by this summer and give you a ride or something.

Rob: Thanks! Your '67 fastback isn't exactly a clunker!!
That is my wife's favorite car! If I build another car, that is what it will be!

Thanks Ron...nope agreed she's no clunker. As a matter of fact, please ask your wife if she's interested in trading a Pantera for it? :D

What is the backspace on the wheels you are using?

Hi Charlie
I'm pretty sure they are 5 1/2 inchs.

As they used to say,,,,, watch this space. Will report on this very topic SOOOONNNN
Bill I'm hanging out to see those wheels on your car, come on get some pics up.:)

Dave,

Both front and rear? The reason I ask is I'm designing my own chassis which will use C4 Corvette front supension (I have a "fine specimen" of an 86 Vette sitting in my driveway waiting to be dismantled). It looks like (on the CAD display anyway) I won't have enough room for a pedal box. I was planning on using a 15 X 8 BRM-style knock off from PS Engineering on the front. PSE tells me that the max backspace they can provide on that wheel is 4" (including the 3/8" adapter thickness).

DRB advertizes a 59" front track width. The number I've heard for a MkI is 57". I positioned the suspension for a 57" track width and 4" wheel backspace in front. With that placement it looks like my control arm spacing would be 5" narrower than your car (which is about how much additional width I need).

Perhaps one reason you don't see BRM's on a DRB is the challenge of finding an 8" wide wheel of that style with a 5-1/2" backspace. I have a 15 X 8 bolt on Halibrand style wheel from Team III on my FFR Cobra. With a 4-3/8" backspace on that wheel the cast center section extends beyond the step at the drop center by about 1".

Very nice wheels, BTW.

Thanks,
Charlie

Charlie,

go to the team III web -they show the available backspacing for the wheels that they make. you can get (as I recall) from 3.5" to 5.25" in the smaller width wheels - you specify at the time of ordering and they make them up (ref. my drb uses the same vette suspension).

Dave,

Yes, they list a backspace range but what they don't tell you is over a certain backspace dimension the cast center section extends beyond the ID of the rim. On my 15 X 8's (AC III style), at 4-3/8" backspace the center section sticks out over 1". I was more than a little disappointed when I opened the box and saw that. The rears are very nice; they're 15 X 10 and don't have that problem. They are a nice wheel at a reasonable price.

Hey Charlie,

Yes, I was going to mention that.

The reason I did not was that the C4 vette suspension backspacing puts the center cast section about 1.xx inches back of the outer edge of the rim (on my 8" front rims). the only thing that extends past the edge of the rim is the tips of the Spinner (they stick out about 1" or so).

If you need more accurate measurements let me know. Since DRB uses the vette suspension the measurements should be close to what you would need too.

please keep in mind that I'm using the 17" rims as I will upgrade to larger brakes in the future - I don't know if there are significant differences in the 15" rims.

Charlie, will measure front offset in the next couple of days and get back to you soon. I'm pretty they are not the same as the rears and also if Bills wheels fit well then a little bird tells mine will be in the forsale section soon.:D

I spoke to PS Engineering about their BRM style wheels. They tell me that they can provide a 4" backspace (including the adapter thickness) on an 8" wide wheel. They also say their 15" wheel will fit over the C4 Corvette brakes.
