It was in Lago Maggiore in northern Italy which has no salt. It was known for decades before being raised and is one of three 1925 Bugatti Type 13 Brescias that were going north to Switzerland. It was thrown in the lake because of non payment of duty when they tried to import it at the Swiss borde, probably in Gondo.
 
Now somebody is going to "restore" the car - meaning, make a new one from existing bugatti parts and fashion a new body - and try to sell it for multi-millions as an original car. Follow the money on this one....
