Converting a GT40 into a Dino 206SP

Re: German GT40 interpretation

Hallo Axel

Oder wie wärs mit etwas GTX1 mässigem Heck. ;)
Hi Urs

for our english speaking friends:

I love the GTX1, but I decided to go for a classic racer style with patina, something which could have been built by Ford at that time, cause the original Roadsters from the late 60ies do not really convince me with their design, although I love the clean design of the very first roadster very much...

Re: German GT40 interpretation

here is a comparison between the 3D, the original roadster, and my car.

What worries me is that my frontend looks like it has a tendency to "hang down"...
Wonder if I should rebuilt this or if this a minor issue because you will not notice after adding lights, lightcovers and paint...

Re: German GT40 interpretation

Personally, I don't think it does. It's the lower light cover's edge that is not parallel to the ground I think that causes the illusion of a 'droop-snoot'. Try some tape stuck on to square the opening off, parallel with the ground, and re-take the photo. I then think the front end will appear as in the other examples.

If you hadn't have mentioned it, chances are no-one will have noticed.

If you want to modify the lower light opening, that would be far easier to 'square-up' compared with the rest of the front end which I think looks fine.

Nice job.

Re: German GT40 interpretation

It is a better model now, worked out the rear fenders with the upper vents, and improved some other bits, and darkend the red colour ;-)
Wish I would have more time and my workshop would be much warmer so I can transfer my ideas into the real car...

Re: German GT40 interpretation

starting to modify the b-pillar, and removed it after I have noticed I cannot keep the upper frame...it is too wide :-(

This is the moment when you realize how much work it will be...and when you realize now there is no way back...!

Am I going the right way? I always try to convince me with photoshop experiments...

Re: German GT40 interpretation

I think the project is fantastic. I would want one of these..

As for Mark, he is the foremost expert on car dismantling. He used to have a very nice Ferrari P4 replica and now all he has is a pile of pieces... :)

I prefer the first pictures
The last one I think the rear clam shell looks too much like a Lola T70

...better now? ;-)

You're right Ian, this is definitely an area I will play around with, may be I'll do it closer to the original with the double vents, I can check this with a simple card mock-up at the car now!

Sehr gut!

Re: German GT40 interpretation

From the historic point of view there is a strong link between Lola and the GT40, I guess all of you know that the Lola GT MK6 did inspire Ford to use it as a base for the first GT40s...and the T70 vents are indeed very similar to my last designs if you see the pics!
Can't wait to try out all the different ideas with some mock-ups at the car, if time wouldn't be a problem...

Re: German GT40 interpretation

Hello
I'm Michael and the GT40 fanatics of the Axel writes.
I'm just a little disappointed that Axel people in Poland is in a poor light. You were there, why did not you checked?
They have to improve a lot of work to put car body from KVA / Hermsenn to make useful to frame.
I myself have already invested over 4 years in my GT40. I have taken the sample frame and body pattern from Germany. I have 99% of parts for my GT40 - incl Hartwell latches and fuel tank caps.
I put my photos when the car is ready.
Regards
Michael

Re: German GT40 interpretation

Hallo Michael
