Cumulative voting?

Laughable - and the beginning of the end of 1 man 1 vote, and America for Americans (of whatever origin). This will encourage complete polarization along ethnic grounds - in fact, it's Racist!

Who made this absurd law?

Why is it racist? The only difference is that you get 6 votes to cast instead of 1. The reasoning behind it may be race based, but for smaller elections like this where you really don't have enough information to make one certain final decision on a candidate, you can spread your vote across several.

Apparently, it's used quite a bit: Cumulative voting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Well, for the record, I dislike everyone equally!

The legality of this example of cumulative voting is very questionable..

If the Cumulative Voting system works purely to balance out ethnicity then of course it's racist - it's a kind of political ethnic cleansing.

If one used the Equal and Even Cumulative Voting then I believe that is a fair system based on your order of preference for candidates.

However, as described, Cumulative Voting smacks of 'positive discrimination' in employment, but we must always remember that if you are white, ipso facto, you are racist and these laws are never made for white citizens, even though Caucasians are now a minority in the USA and have been since 2000. (Doesn't that sound Racist, eh?)

One of the things I always thought America had right was the willingness (nay eargerness) with which it's citizens declared their 'Americanism' whatever their ethnic background. These artificial PC laws seek to balance the unbalaceable and give power to a minority, not only against the Constitution but also the fundamental principles of democracy, a concept which many hundreds of thousands of Americans have given their lives for.

Local issues should be dealt with in a common purpose as citizens, not on racial grounds. It's a recipe for disaster in my opinion.

Of course I may have this all wrong and would be interested to get other views on the subject.

I am not dogmatic about any subject and welcome debate so please don't set fire to me - it's not hard and fast. I love learning... :)

In England, I notice it was ONLY used to elect some school boards. I think we probably had much more 'voting irregularities' than Cumulative Voting back in the day!

Its racist because it targets a specific area where there is a large population of one race. They cant just say 'only hispanics get 6 votes', because that's direct discrimination, so instead; they do it indirectly by just targeting an area, in this case Port Chester.

And whats the reason for this? just because theres never been a hispanic seated that they must have one?

I always thought the best person to do a job (any job) was the person who could do it best, regardless of their colour, race, sex or religious persuasion.
Seems I was wrong:sad:

Good point Simon. We always looked up to American society as a meritorious one; one that recognised hard work, diligence and patriotism.

What are we to make of this?

I can only hope that we caucasians will get the same considerations when we are in the minority, as we will be within a decade, I've heard.

.......not holding my breath, though!
