Well its finally finished. Its has been a hard journey but the end result I'm quite pleased with. It functions as it should selects all gears and now we just have to put real power to it and see how it performs and what issues show up. The only thing I'm disappointed with is the weight has crept up and it is 96kg. This is mostly due to the QC adding quite a bit of steel and another casting also the main case is more robust than it probably needs to be and I have already recognized where I can trim the pattern down to shed a lot of the excess. I'm going to try to down load some photo's but have had issue with the sizing so if they won't work I will send some in a later post. I will be packing it up today and shipping it off to John in Australia. so hopefully we can be testing it for real in a few months. I now have to finish the rear uprights and get them to him asap. Hello guys, Its been a while and the trans has come back from Aussie. Unfortunately the weight was too big an issue for Johns car and the selectors weren't up to the job so it will now become my Trans and I have built a Mk2 version that doesn't have the Q/C. This allowed me to make the selector system much simpler, shortens and lightens the trans. The pattern has been trimmed down in the diff section and a complete new gear section made with a 2 shaft set up. I hope to have it to the foundry next week and are looking at assembly by the new year. I will post some photos once it is complete. I do intend to fix the Selector issue with the Q/C version and people who don't have the same concerns about weight may be interested in it and there will also be a lighter No Q/C available. Hello Guys,
Thought I would bring you up to date with the MK3 trans axle, I am just doing the selector shafts this weekend and hope to have it all but finished by the end of the Easter break. I have attached some photos and will do some of the selector system when its finished. I have changed to a 4.1 C&P as this is now driven trough the Lay shaft which gives it a .78 overdrive. This is a Jerico so you can change the ratios to what ever you want. I'm pretty happy with this version but I will still have the Q/C option available. Cheers Leon

I weighed the complete unit yesterday and it comes in at 78kg, around 18 - 20kg less than the Q/C version. Just some final details to finish and we will send it to John to test.

Have you considered mounting it on the lathe bed and driving input shaft with chuck while you stand alongside and shift up/down while running. Make brrrmm brrmm noises if your that way inclined. Might reveal any issues without wasting money on freight. Apply a bit of load with wooden stick on output flanges while doing the shifts. Do not forget to put oil in first!

Length to the rear of the shift rod in its most rearwards position ie 2nd or 4th engaged is

G50/50 500
G50/52 646

You may need to subtract approx 100 if you want the distance to the rear of the housing

The G50/52 has a large mount cast onto the rear housing. Much of this can be removed and the shift rod shortened

G50/0x should be the same

G50-50/2 short tail is 17 inches from center of axle to end of trans case

Some photos of the finished Trans ready to ship back to John. I made up a shift lever and mounted it to the top of the trans and it shifts nice so now we just need to try it in a car to see what if any issues show up at the end of the day this is a new product. I have addressed the issues of weight (20Kgs less) the lock outs (now fitted) the shift system (now simplified) the trans is 3" shorter and the input shaft has longer splines.
