Does anyone know about this car?

Advertised as a 1966...but I would bet a million bucks that is a CAV....Looks just like a pic I have of one...same angle and all.....its a hot car though.

It states that it is a GTD. Why would they change the manufacturer? Anyone have any other info? I remember someone stating that there was a GT 40 on ebay not too long ago and thought this might be the same car. Cheers Richard.

First of all I have been lurking for a while and like the this forum a lot. Great group with a real passion for a great car, real or replica.

Back to business. The car is advertised as a 1966 GTD 40 Mark 1 re creation. 302/354 hp 5 speed, webbers, aluminum heads, roller cam. Lot 161 at the Collector car auction in Branson Missouri. That is all the info I have except it is black.

I am about 3 hours from there and would like to know about it before I go down. This is an attempt at a link: 161__65gtd40[1]

I don't think the link will work I am not good with the computer linking stuff. The site is www.collectorcars-int.com If anyone has info, post or e-mail it to me at [email protected] Thanks in advance for your help.

FYI: I am not sure if I will even try to buy, not really financially ready to do a 40 right now. However I will look, and if someone wants me to bid for them I will do so. My dealers license is current and I am going to register for the auction anyway, one never knows what will show up.

Thanks in advanc again. Let me know.
Cheers Richard.

The GT40 on eBay was an early ERA car which was actually a bargain, also there is another ERA car out in Chicago that Bob Wood knows about which is much nicer and a ready to go drive away car. He is at [email protected].

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? I am just trying to decide if it worth looking at for a real purchase of if I will even fit in it. I am 6'4" and about 250 with 35 inch inseam. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it. Not quite desperate just trying to find something on this side of the pond that is not completely incomplete.

Cheers Richard.

Hello, !

I certainly do not know this particular car.
But it certainly looks like a GTD (UK)
As said.
Not much of text or pics to go on...
Nice wheels.Knock off´s even ?..
Looks so..
Engine seems well equipped !
If it was built with GTD parts underneath the skin as well, then it is a well sorted out car.
Will it fit ?, make it fit.
You can lower seats, move pedals, put Gurney bubble in the "roof" if you´d like more "head room".
3 hours?, just go and have a look !
Maybe this does´nt help much, but i tried...

I love these little bits of detective work!
There are some features in the photo which make me think it's a GTD.
> There are no gutters on the door tops, GTD never offered these although some of us have retro fitted them.
> The exhaust pipes are angled downwards. This is a standard GTD feature because the Renault gearbox sits quite high in the chassis which forces the silencer boxes up. The angled pipes are necessary to stop them fouling on the rear body when you open it.
> The louvred grilles on top and to the rear of the back body look like GTD parts.
> The pop out side windows look like GTD items. They make them oversize so they sit on the outside of the main window for weather proofing, not flush fitting as on the original.
> The overcentre catches on the front and rear bodywork look like standard GTD parts.
> The wheels are Cobra pattern, which is slightly different from the original GT 40 (Phil Schmidt at PS Engineering is the only person I know who does the original pattern)
> This is a left hand drive car, so my guess is it was built up in the States from an imported left hand drive GTD kit.

I hope this helps. If you go and look at the car, try it for size. Frank Catt can supply replica seats which bolt direct to the floor pan and give you a bit more head and leg room. He also does a Tilton pedal box which can be set up to give more legroom than the standard set up. There is always a Gurney bubble for the roof and on the GTD the steering column is adjustable for reach and rake with a spanner.
If you are really lucky, this might turn out to be A long chassis GTD which has more legroom as standard.
If the car is as nice as it looks, you would be looking at £25,000 to £30,000 in the UK ($35,000 to$42,000). Please post the price if you can, it would be interesting to see how prices compare across the pond.
(If it sells for $250,000+ I'll be sending mine over by UPS in a New York minute!)

Hello, !
Don´t forget the position of the rear body clips, almost a GTD trade mark sort of...
You´re right about the wheels, if PS does the correct ones you´re all lucky !
And that the rear arches has a certain "looks" that GTD started with.
Even the small "lip" were the body meets the "sill".
Amongst others.
But they have also been cloned now...
It can have a KVA chassis, but doubtful.
Them cars arrived before GTD made their body mods.pretty sure.
It´s like Andrew say´s...
Cars seems to be alot more expensier in the US compared to UK.
Especially ready built ones.
At least those beeing built in the US.
Work costs a lot more in the US.
People do more them selves in Europe.
Accsess and demand...

Thanks for the info. Pete, I know you and Alain would have to check it out. I am registered to bid and have a place to stay so I will bid till I run out of money or guts. I will post the dollars. The auction has several real Shelbys, and a Shelby replica (csx4XXX), in it so I figure the price will not go cheap as there will be some real players for the other cars. On the other hand maybe all the money will be gone by the time this comes up. Again thanks for the help. Cheers Richard.

Hi guys, It's billed as a GTD40. There were a lot of cars supplied while to Val Byrd and co in the Pennsylvania area about 1988/89 and it could be one of them. These cars were built to a fairly high standard and It should be a good car to have a closer look. While I was at the factory the late eighties and early nineties saw the highest number of exports to the States. Even some ended up in Florida with a guy called Jeff white. Bud Jones and Bill levvings 111 were also good customers. GTD exported a fair amount of cars nearly all LHD at that time. If you can obtain the Chassis number located near the pedal box on the 40x40 box section, i can tell you when the car was produced and exported. Other than that, it would cost you more than 30,000 pounds to build that car again. could be a steal. Good luck.

All the very best to all

Update, Update. I found out this same car sold last fall at the same auction. It was asked back to replace a Gulf schemed car that sold before it could make it to the sale. The owners of the sale called the owner of this car to re-enter the car. There was so much interest in the Gulf car that they felt they needed a GT40 in the sale.

Here is the catch. The car sold for 61K ($61,000) US dollars. As much as I want a GT40 I can not swing that kind of dough. I am still going down and will report the price if I am around when/if it sells.

Thanks again for all the help/info but it appears that for now a GT40 is out of my budget.

Cheers Richard.

If someone offered me $80,000 for my GTD I would have trouble not accepting! I don't even think I have spent that much on my car since I first got it in 1990.

Malcolm

PS my car ain't for sale!
