engine mounts

i have a small problem i thought I'd throw to the forum, I'm building a space framed formula 5000 replica with a small block ford 302 and Audi trans and am at the dilema of sorting out engine mounts, what have others used and had success with, ie solid or insulated, i don't have a lot of room so OEM are out. pics would be nice
thanks in advance John

Here's a pic of the mounts in my CAV. I believe they're standard Ford Mustang engine mounts, but I'm not positive.

Speaking of that, does anybody know what kind of mounts these are for sure? Mustang? Sorry for the thread drift here....

ps. please ignore the mount bolt....which was about to finally drop out....

make up a plate for sandwich between block & bell housing [ you will probably need to make an adaptor anyway so it might as well perform two functions ], use thin nylon or nolathane grommets where the chassis bolts to the plate, if you make that plate out of say 8mm 5052 alloy or similar then you should only need a 6mm plate between front cover & block or on front of front cover, again with small grommets in plate where it attach's to chassis.

John,

I used a similar mounting system on mine except fully solid mounted, bolted directly to the chassis. Worked well, no vibes, and held everything in shape rather well during inadvertant high speed crash testing at Levels. Plenty of photos of the plates on my build thread.

Incidentally, pretty much all F5000s use the engine as a stressed member with no compliant bushes. But you knew that already....

Cheers,

Russ

Hi John, Good to see you are building something else, As Russ said just about all F5000s Use the engine as a stressed member, But to do this they mount all the rear end off the gearbox. The engine is normally held solid at the front with some frame work onto the bell housing. I don't know if your Audi box would handle that stress. As I haven't seen how your chassis is set up for your rear suspension its hard to say what is best for engine mounting, but I would go for solid mounting.
Look forward to seeing this in the build log with some photos, good luck John.
Cheers Leon.
