Excellent GT40 video

Great video, It is amazing how quickly the brakes went away and started squeeking. I think this is one of the major advancements the market has made from the originals. It would be great to understand a comparison of original and todays replica 100 to 0 times. Exspecially over 5 or 6 repeated cycles.

Can anyone explain how I can warch these on a Mac?

At home all I get is the sound - when I "X" out of it it kills explorer

Works fine in the office on Windows!

Thanks
Ian

Comparing the lap times by the video timestamp, the first full green lap ran ~1m50s and the last ~1m54s. That's a big difference. There are a lot of factors at work here- settling into a rhythm, following the lighter, faster CANAM car, tires going away, running alone on the track, etc. Four seconds is a big difference...

As for the brakes squealing, that may just be a factor of them heating up. That's part of running a race pad- some compounds may tend to squeal a bit. I'd wonder if the feel and power went away or just the noise kicked up.

Maybe John will chime in with some commentary here?

Great Video. That infield is a brake killer and it certainly seemed that it was the brakes that faded as early as the third or fourth lap. I too would be interested in John's experiences. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The squeel doesn't mean fade. mine squeel lika a SOB and don't fade. Sure wish I could figure it out. It's drivin me nuts.

As a point of reference for laptimes I pulled these off of MyLaps.com for a PCA sprint race held there in 2004.
---
Class: GT2S

1 62 Craig Ranta 14 26:30.387 2.598 1:51.234 4 93.209
2 59 Kim Gutowski 14 27:01.033 33.244 1:53.630 4 91.243
3 31 Roland Schmidt 14 28:08.763 1:40.974 1:57.519 12 88.224
---
Basically about the same laptimes, 1:5X best times. There are many more, but GT2S class is a Porsche Club racing class for naturally aspirated Porsches over 3.4L of displacement on DOT tires (means R compound DOT tires probably, but not sure in PCA land).

GT2R laptimes were better, best times of 1:4X and these are naturally aspirated Porsches over 3.4L on race tires.

Really cool video!

Video is kick ass! I hope that I will be able to pedal my 40 around there that quickly. As a point of reference, I ran a National and a Regional race there last month in my 112 hp Formula Ford, we were running sub 1:50, the fastest FF was 1:46. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twocents.gif

David, I was checking on MyLaps and didn't see any SCCA stuff listed, although I am sure you were there. Does the track go under any other name? Wanted to see what some ITS and SM cars run there so I could sort of get an idea of how that GT40 compares to some of my own cars, any idea what good SM or ITS or ITA cars run?

Ron

Jan 27/28/29, Cal Club National/Regional, FF 61. I did not get the times on the other run groups, but I can find out for you. If you go to the Cal Club website you can see the lap records at Fontana for all SCCA types. It is cool to see the track from the vantage point of that video. I don't have camera on the FF but I can see the need.

I think he could have gone much quicker with another gear or taller gearing. It is my interpretation of the video that he is reaching rev-limited top speed (he is not on full throttle) not far after the start finish line.

Interesting times though even if it is top speed limited. Thing is I am certainly hoping I'll be faster around the track in my GT40 than my beat up 260z or Spec Miata, but, those lap times definitely don't suggest that I will.

David, I had no luck locating any other SCCA times so if you can find some for some ITS or ITA or SM cars that would be good for me to compare to. Thanks!

Paolo,

This video has a download button near the top right of the page.

Tim.

[/ QUOTE ] Tim It will download but I can't figure how to save it either?

You can download it - it saves it in Google's own vidoe folder. And you need the Google video software, AND I believe a live internet connection. I've done it before with other videos that have the DOWNLOAD button.
