Re: Speed: V8 is as fast as V10
The change in rules this year (V8's,launch control, traction control, qualifying etc etc) places increased demands on the drive train. For example C/C clutches rarely fail per se, but repeat starts, increased heat soak when stationary etc causes failures in other components. (C/C itself in a relatively oxygen free environment outperforms all of the refractory metals and has use temperatures > 3000 C.). The reduced torque and bhp available from the V8 means a move to a smaller diameter clutch assembly which alds lower COG. The increased vibration and heat soak are then problematic, hence my caution about how the mechanical reliability will play out during the season.
