I liked the Fiberfab Valkyrie better.. It looked a little more like a GT40 and most were setup with V8 engines.

I looked high and low for a GT40 replica with roll-ups without success, but Fran did say in a PM that he was aware of one 40 (might have been an original, I can't remember) that had been outfitted with roll-ups, rather unsuccessfully.

I live in an area with a lot of toll roads and a way to get my hand out the window with change for the toll would be helpful. I know most 40's are outfitted with a small hinged window, but I've also seen quite a few Daytona replicas fitted with a much larger sliding window. That looks like a better solution for my situation.

I, too, liked the Valkyrie better. The Avenger was usually either VW or Corvair powered, but the Valkyrie was a V-8 mid-engined design. It was a SBC powered Valkyrie with a BOS exhaust on a used car lot in Denver, CO that started my love affair with mid-engined cars (MANY years ago, I might add).

Both the DRB and the MKIII windows appear to be hinged windows--it looks like they may hinge to an opening of about 6"-8" at the back of the opening in the door, but that probably wouldn't allow me to get my arm out to drop the toll $$ without major contortions. The helicopter vents are great for ventilation and don't seem to leak in the rain from what I hear.

I'll surf around and see if I can find a photo of a Daytona replica with sliding window. The one I saw created an opening about 8" X 10", certainly enough to stick one's arm through to drop coins into the toll both coin receptor. I think they would be equally workable on a GT40, although not as aesthetically pleasing as a hinged vent, IMHO.

on restoration of his Lola tub. In it are a couple shots of the neat
power windows he installed. I'd think something similar could be
done with a GT40....just take some ingenuity and patience.

Why do you bother to stop and pay. Won't your forty pass below the toll booth swing arm?

LOL!!!!!---you would not believe how I'm smiling at that thought!!!!!

One option would be an "EZ Tag". It's some kind of electronic box that registers my passing every time I go through a toll booth, and there's no need to even slow down--just blast on through. The EZ Tag lanes don't have toll both swing arms. Some of the Houston area toll roads don't even have toll booths--they are open only to EZ Tag users.

Still smiling over the idea of "flying low", "under the radar" so to speak, though!!

It's not the easiest to see, but try surfing into this site and look at the way the sliding pleixiglass/lexan window was done. It slides forward and makes a pretty big hole.
