Go England

Come on England..
Germany are always good at tournament football, we need to play well to beat them. No shame to lose to Germany though.
Argentina will be next for the winners and that will be an even tougher game.

My grandfather is turning in his grave the German Blitz was way too much for England to handle. You guys will have to start cloning Beckams.

Sir Bobby Robson will be turning in his grave. What a load of shite.
Italia '90 was our best chance. We actually played really well against Germany that day and had we won the penalty shootout, would probably have won the final.
Sir Bobby we salute you.
It's all talk and hype and no substance with these bunch of overpaid premadonnas. phwaaa what a waste of time.

I hope that the public at large in the UK will now see how crushingly tedious it is to have these illiterate yobs called footballers 'in our faces' with their incomprehensible dialogue and twaddle almost every day. Football, the players, the management, their ferrel fans, and the F.A. at large should really look inwards to see how they are perceived by the rest of the country and maybe try and take a leaf out of the sport of Rugby, both the amateur and the professional players and the management in the form of the R.F.U. Football is really now at the bottom of a ladder in an inspection pit (manhole?) that it has fallen into - a ladder that does not reach the top of the manhole and I for one would be quite happy to replace the cover over the manhole and weld it shut so it never recovers. If the likes of rooney didn't play football, or try to, he'd be washing trucks for a living. No - change that - all our hand car and truck washes are now nicknamed bosnewashes and manned by illegals so he wouldn't get a look in their either. In fact I think he would be on benefits. As for the so called manager -Easyjet run quite a lot of 'cheapo' flights to Italy. Ciao.

They should all come back and be paraded through London

Preferably in leg irons or even put into stocks and allow the public to humiliate them and throw rotton fruit and veg at them.

None of them should be paid a penny for their dismal showing.

But then I have no time for football anyway (Never had) - will watch rugby, cricket and motorsports but not this crap

And David I think you said that rather well

Martin ,
This time, these football people have sealed their own fate. Just imagine - no more football...............for ever. How nice would that be?

Eutopia.

David,

I could tell you were not a fan.
I still play proper football on a Sunday morning and I love the game. I mean the real game. The game at the highest level has turned into pantomime and I don't watch much of it on the T.V anymore. One thing that I really hate is all this simulation. Rolling around as if you've been shot at the slightest brush of an arm. Pathetic and embarrassing. Conning the referee and pretending you are hurt, it's all cheating. Even the football pundits accept it as part of the modern game. You can't tackle anymore, period.
I think top flight football has become a bit of a joke. With all the money in the sport, they wonn't use goal line technology to determine if the ball has crossed the line or not! Are we still living in the dark ages ? Come on.
Like a lot of things, as soon as the big money arrives, it's ruined. We've passed that station a long time ago I'm afraid.

+1 Martin.
I love the game, but I can't stand the pampered players. Doesn't affect me as I'm a Swindon Town fan (and that hardly qualifies as football anyway :) ).

Too many people whispering in the top flight players ears about how they are "special". To quote a retired Premiership footballer who is now a commentator, "The modern players simply do not understand the word "No", as they never hear it.

There is no will from the Premier League for change (and why would they want to weaken their "brand"), and the FA is now a toothless old mare on its last legs, and that pisses me off bigtime

Accept it Gentlemen. They have had their 15 minutes. Now they are exposed as being total tossers and nobody can deny it. Overawed by the event ? WHAT?
If they were overawed, the rest of the country that bothered to watch were totally underwhelmed. I'm sure there will be a reception comittee at the airport when they arrive back that will be venting their spleen. Thats what their supporters are good at. Or are they all having a holiday with their wags and doing the vinyards of the cape. I wouldn't want to be in their number for the next month or so. Then again, I wouldn't want to be in their number period. Its over. They have fallen on their swords big time.
PS I flew Norwich City to all their away games on Saturdays and returned with the Board after the game. I could have watched every away game they played in the 1987 season, simply because I was allowed to, and from the Directors boxes. I often chose to stay on the aeroplane and read the papers - much more interesting.

A good read is this thread. I watched in shame at Englands abject performance. I had trials at Southend United and West Ham in the early 70's and recall Bobby Moore giving me advise. "You better get stuck in on your tackles or you'll come out injured." Getting stuck in is no longer part of the game. Touch a player these days and they go down like being shot by a howitser. I too think the best footie is played in the local leagues but then I've been removed from the country and the game for some years. I think the FA and the players should be rquired to reimburse the fans if they show proof of airline ticket to SA and proof of entry to the games. I really feel for the countless thousands fans who spent hard earned wages to go watch a bunch of overpriced whiners play the beautiful game. Or so it use to be called....So much hope from the fans and so little heart seen from the players IMHO. I'm an avid Ipswich Town Fan (go ahead and feel sorry for me!) but they hold the distinction of being managed by Englands two most successful managers. Alf Ramsey and Bobby Robson. They must both be having a good laugh or cry right now. Bloody shame is all I can say.
