I know jack squat about Australian politics, but this guy seems pretty engaging...

Re: I know jack squat about Australian politics, but this guy seems pretty engaging..

I think that is generalizing a bit about the US, but you may be right. I don't believe that a man or women wakes up one day and decides that "this will be the day I start making it with the same sex". I think some do experiment, but I believe it is a chromosome makeup that's decided during conception. I also think it must be a frightening experience to be a male or female trapped in the wrong body.

That's a bit different, Al...what you're talking about there is Gender Identity Disorder, it's not about being homosexual.

It's so real that the state organization for which I work has a policy to address the issue.

Cheers!

Have a beer for me mate. :)
Actually, if what they tell me about that pommy piss is true I'd better have a proper one for you. :D

I started a new thread for you Tim.

Jeff, K Rudd is a politician who like your bloke is great on rhetoric but changes his story to suit the situation where he thinks he can attract votes.
He was completely against gay marriage until the polls showed him it was costing him votes.
That is what the Pastor called him on and obviously his spin doctors had come up with a pretty good answer.
It doesn't make him any less a hypocrite.
If the bookies are any guide he will lose the election in a landslide.

Cheesy insincere grin, hypocritical , an inability to answer a straight question despite much lip moving and wearing make up +fake tan = politician

Good to hear Pete

Is there a strong Conservative leader standing or is it people are just upset with the alternative (Labour)

What is the Ausi economy doing? Still in huge deficit? and are they voting to get things straight again?

Perhaps better to discuss at lunch next week!

cheers

Re: I know jack squat about Australian politics, but this guy seems pretty engaging..

The conservative leader is Tony Abbott, six years of left wing Labor(that is how they spell it) Government under Rudd and Juliar have left Australia with a huge deficit.
Abbott has already said he will cut costs in several areas including foreign aid and silly government grants, primarily to do with the climate change con.
He has also said he will repeal the carbon tax.
I think he is strong enough not to worry about the green vote, they never vote conservative anyway.
If the indicators are correct Abbott should win with a huge mandate. We will know on Saturday.

What I said was quite simply, homosexuality is determined prior to birth. It's not something one can be "cured" of.

'Hope the same will be true re: conservatives in general in our own 2014 elections.

We cannot sustain the current course of things.

Australia appears to be moving to the Right in general, however, much of that MUST be an anti-labour vote rather than a pro Liberal? (Conservative for US and UK guys - that much I have learned about Oz politics already :))

Interesting both parties have gone all out for an anti boat refugee policy. Now that IS unusual - a consensus across two opposing philosophies.

One thing is also sure - the Big Govt versus Big Society debate rages on wherever in the world you find yourself.

Only Pete knows....but he's far too busy engaged in practising his driving etiquette: "After you Cecil, NO after YOU Claude...No, I insist, Oh, OK shall we let Cyril go first then?"..

If not the "condition" itself, at least a predilection....but  either way, we agree it is of constitutional origin (which is referenced specifically in definitions of such "conditions" as dyslexia....etc.) Not by choice, totally, but does require a choice.

Cheers!

Actually old bean, Di has done all the driving with me as observer and mr. GPS leading us astray at every turn. A long story which I will no doubt bore you with at lunch.
I am very pleased with the election result, we could not sustain the massive spending and excesses of a socialist Government any longer. The labor party has until recent times been perceived as for "the working class man" but are now seen as taxing the shit out of anyone working and giving massive amounts of welfare to those who choose not to work.
" The working man" has woken up and fortunately there were enough left to kick this inept corrupt and criminal bunch of bastards out.

'Wish I could say the same here. The last 2 fed. elections have proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that we now have more "takers" than "produces" here in the U.S. ...at least as far as those who vote anyway. I'm not sure we will ever be able to turn things around now.

You won't need to. Just emigrate to Australia - there's plenty of room believe me.

Pete will welcome you with open arms, especially if y'all take your guns with you... :)

Just like MasterCard...I never leave home w/o 'em! :D

In all seriousness, I've pondered doing that more than once. Buuuuuuut, our kids and grandkids are here, so..........................

Take 'em all Larry! One word of advice, DON'T arrive in a small boat (up to 100' in length) and DON'T approach from the North or from the direction of Christmas Island.. :)

Just land at the usual tourist drop off - Botany Bay. You'll be fine...

Many have successfully landed there, perhaps even Pete? :lipsrsealed:
