Welcome Mr Disaster,

Thats a Superformance GT40, Its a very good car and fairly accurate. BE carful though the posted price seems high, you can get them for less. I would think anything in the $80 to $90 k range would be ok but others on the site may have a better idea.

BTW, being registered as a '66 absolutely will not work in California. We have a particular way of dealing with this....

And Jim's right about the value but that doesn't mean you won't be outbid at that level.

I went back & read the rest of the add, it sounds like the "Selby" special, these cars had Shelby engraved on the headlamps and someware else and they then raised the price $20-$30k.

+Alan is right, the registration thing will never work in CA, but the real process is not that bad, we can help.

ok i'm less worried about registering the car...

more interested in finding out if this is something worth great value, something i can afford.

theres no way i could swing 50,000 for a car

but if it goes cheap i may be able to make it happen, call it an investment if you will. i need help from you guys:)

Welcome to the forum. There has been a lot of talk recently about replica prices. My estimate is the car would trade for $70-$90k in today's market, although if they'll sell at that price is another matter entirely. Notice the broker wants $143k for it but in my opinion that is highly inflated.

There have been some bargain good quality GT40 replicas sold from time to time over the years. But $50k is the lowest I can ever remember a complete car selling for.

It appears to be a beautiful car, but Sunset Classics has been trying to sell that car for a long time. Eventhough it has a Roush 427 injected motor which is over $20,000 alone the car is overpriced in my opinion. I have seen comparable SPF cars with the Roush 427 fuel injection for sale for far less (asking price $105,000-$119,000). If your in the market RCR also makes a beautiful car.

There are many replicas that are wonderful cars, I have pro's and con's with all of them. At this time in our economy if you have the cash its the time to buy. All the parts and labor that it takes to make a good driver is astronomical. So if you research what it takes to make one starting from scratch to finish any brand that is in perfect condition less than 100k is a bargain in my humble opinion.

here is the description of the car being auctioned.

any more opinions on the car appreciated

Even in todays market and at auction I still believe this car will see $100,000-$110,000, but at the listed ad price it will not sell.

Could happen.

Regarding the listed price anyone could have one built brand new for less than that. If a buyer willing to pay that made any noise there would be SPF owners lining up around the block. So that's the "stupid money" price.

As for $50,000.... well, that would be the deal of the century. The motor's worth $20k and the transaxle's worth $13k, so yeah, I'd pay $17K for the roller! :-)

RYAN: where do we go to see his auction?

Yes, but you would still not have a 40, just a 'Vette.

We're a bit biased against Bow-tie products around here, mind you

Good luck.....as well built as this 40 is, I'd suspect $70K would be just a dream. Still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!
