Mr. Limbaugh called Ms Fluke a rude name, he later apologized. MSNBC's Ed Schultz called Laura Ingraham the same rude name, he subsequently apologized. Unlike Ms Fluke, Ms Ingraham accepted the apology and the matter was dropped. I don't see Mr. Limbaugh as hate filled and he certainly propelled Ms Fluke into media stardom not ruination, much like Mr. Brietbart did for Shirley Sherrod.

My daughter is a high school teacher and band director. She is also a very strict task master with numerous former students that are now professional musicians and even band directors themselves. I'm sure she is called far worse on a daily basis.

Mr Limbaugh did a lot more than call "her A name", he called Ms Fluke a prostitute, a slut, he said that she wanted to be paid for having sex. He then said she was having so much sex that she could not afford contraception. He asked her to make porno movies so he could watch.

Mr limbaugh did not apologies that day, he did not apologize the next or the day after that.

Only after several sponsors canceled their spots, did Mr Limbaugh say.........

"My choice of words was not the best"

That is not an apology, that comment only says......

I think she is all those things, I just used words that were not the best.

Veek, you have said several times that Ms Sherrod and now Ms Fluke are now media stars, like that's a good thing, like they should be happy, quit complaining.

I'm not empowered to condemn anyone Jim. I'll leave that up to the Almighty. I can only criticize what I think inappropriate that people do. When a conservative does something wrong, and apologizes we are treated to the spectacle that the apology isn't accepted because we can read into the person's heart and make any excuse we want to not accept the apology.
So much, once again, for liberals having tolerance and a willingness to forgive.
But that really isn't the point is it? All this harrumphing and breast beating is about suppressing opposition voices and silencing those that oppose the current regime. Let’s see if we can get Mr. Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage, Neil Boortz et al off the air. But Mr. Maher, Mr. Mr. Shultz, Mr. “Southerners killed in the recent storms are grease spots” Malloy, Mr. Olbermann are to be forgiven, they’re OK to stay. Their on OUR side! After all there’s an election coming.

Given that the government sees itself free to execute Americans without the hassle of a judge or jury perhaps we all need to watch our words. But don’t worry, the Attorney General says U.S. government won’t have you killed until it has determined through its secret process, after a thorough and careful review, you are someone they want set up for “targeted killing”. It’s illegal and immoral to pour water up your nose for 90 seconds to get information but it’s OK to kill you and your family if they happen to be with you.

Most of left folks that you mentioned I have never heard of and I certainly have never watched their programs. I don't think xMr Obernan is even on tv anymore.

That said, if those folks are saying anything close to what Mr Limbaugh spews out, they should be boycotted.

I really find it hard to believe that you are defending this sort of activity. Your only defense which you constantly bring up, others do it so it's ok. well it's not ok!

No, it isn't that hard, but these days (and for the foreseeable future) to certain folks, politics and not backing down are a lot more important than civility. What they don't get is that politics and shouting isn't going to save anything or accomplish anything. Civility might, if we could get people to practice it. I'm not holding my breath, but for my own part I'm going to try to do it. Not that it's easy.

Psychological projection or projection bias is a psychological defense mechanism where a person subconsciously denies his or her own attributes, thoughts, and emotions, which are then ascribed to the outside world, usually to other people. Life's too short to hate anybody and maintain this level of anger. Have you considered switching to decaf?

And Jeff, as the PM I sent you at the time indicated, I honestly appreciate your support of the troops and the need to address their terrible reemployment situation. I still do.

While I frequently contribute to the mayhem here on our political threads, more often I just sit back and watch as the barbs fly.

I find it interesting that the current political situation can bring fellows who have joined a forum because of a common interest to the point where insults fly. I guess it just shows how important we all think this election is.....

.....however, I must admit, topics with a title such as "In your face, comrade" can be viewed as inflamatory even before they are read, and that intent is difficult to miss.

What I find even more interesting is that it seems to be the conservative contingent who posts MOST of the threads with this sort of approach (I'm trying to remember one of us with a bit more liberal orientation posting a thread with such a title, but I can't--I'm sure someone will remind me, though).

In the end, though, I think Jim is correct....the anger displayed by the radical conservative movement does not endear it to those of us who just want the government to do it's job, not go toe-to-toe on what seems like EVERY topic.

While I have varied enough opinions to see both sides on occasion, I do also recognize that the average citizen will be repulsed by the vitriolic exchanges such as we see here on the forum...they are really not significantly different from the barbs I see people hurling at each other on other websites.

Jim's prediction that the far right might well be the end of the conservative movements strikes me as having a good degree of validity. We moderate/centrists want more cooperation, not less, and as I see it any more of a conservative contingent in the power base will do little more than return us to the Tom Delay days of "Win at all costs"....IMHO those costs (and by that I do not mean financial) are too great for our society right now. We are at a pivotal point in our history as humans, we might well be wiped out by those who are on the other side of our planet as they become more nuclear-capable. That's a scary thought, no? It is for me, that's why I keep hoping our government can find a way to work together for America's benefit, not for the enhancement of their own conflicting political party's views.

I have stated over and over that I condemn this sort of thing, no matter where it comes from. I have said that both the liberal and conservatives do it and its all wrong. I have condemed all one sided hate talk from liberals.....................

Its not that difficult to understand. Take Muslums................

A very small group of Muslums from outside the US attacked us in a horrable way.

Add to that, a lack of understanding about Muslums overall.......
Add some fear.............
Add some hate............
Add some propaganda (you know Fox, Limbaugh, Beck, Hanity).....

You end up with good Americans fearing US citizens, who happen to be Muslum, on and on.

It has been my experience that women are VERY sensitive about being called that "C-word" by us men, yet they throw the term back and forth among themselves as if it were an everyday vocabulary item (who knows, maybe it is?).

Sort of like African-Americans and the "N-word"....caucasians dare not use that term, yet their culture uses it regularly to refer to each other without it being considered a slur.

Double standards, all around......
Don't call a pure-bred a "hound"...
Just keep the language cool and fair....
