Lifetime Premier Supporter here, but am willing to contribute more because this is one of very few car sites that I subscribe to, where a good technical discussion doesn't degenerate into a "mine is bigger than yours" diatribe.
I don't want to sign up for a "gold" subscription that could possibly supercede my Lifetime Premier subscription, so tell me how to just make a simple $100 contribution?

Too bad it's not exclusive WRT the FORD GT40 and the thousands of replicas the original has spawned.
Well cr*p. I went ahead & hit the "Gold Supporter" button, and now I see that I just have a gold star icon spinning in my user box, and have lost the Lifetime Supporter trophy icon..... Maybe it'll come back once things have "synced" up again.

Cheers guys. Some things can't be fixed at the moment so we're 'crowd-funding upgrades and improvements. WE need circa $2k to fund the project which is not a lot considering there are literally thousands of users.
Lets have some of the 'browsers' step up to the plate. This is a huge resource for all rear engined classic sports cars, and some contemporary ones too (hint hint SLC hint).
I'm beginning to sound like Jimmy Wales here so here goes: If everyone reading this contributed just $5, we would be done & dusted. Haha, truth to tell I don't know how to contribute $5, only a bronze membership at best. I'll check if we can use Ron's email for a Paypal transfer.

It is very important to me , lots of decent information, hints tips etc.etc.
i do pay yearly my due's, it is one of the bests investsments made.

once back in europe from the job, i will also start my "buildlog"to inform others about my mistakes and slow learning process.

OK chaps, I have now 'spoken' with Ron and he is well tied up with a rather large case at the moment so he has no time at the moment but he knows what needs to be done. Randy has gone 'off grid' for a while. As you know he has suffered a very tragic personal loss quite recently. I'm sure we all wish him well. He is in touch but only by mobile phone at present.
Here's the thing. Quote: "The site needs work. And we have no sponsors to foot bills. Plus the site needs to move to a lower cost provider with new software. I have someone who can knock that out and get us on a stable dedicated server for around $70ish a month. Software and the time to convert will be more expensive, look at probably $1.8k." Unquote.
There are a number of concerns from members who have already contributed that there are some who make commercial advantage from the site and yet pay no dues. This of course can be policed in the future but there's not much we can do about that at the moment except to appeal to their better nature.
Some excuse this by saying that they "contribute" knowledge to the site and don't see why they should contribute money as well. That is kind of understandable but a bit mean as these same people openly advertise their services and probably earn a bit out of it. Again, we can only appeal to all these people to please contribute so that we can get the site fixed and move the platform.
Mike D makes a reasonable point with which I have some sympathy but I'm not the site owner and it's his rules that prevail, but I'm pretty sure that this can be fixed in the future, all we have to do is survive, because if it comes crashing down one day, I don 't know if there's anyone with the time or the will to fix it.
In order to facilitate this fundraising, I have suggested to Ron that we use his Paypal address to donate $5, $10, $15, $20, $25 $30 to whatever the minimum Bronze membership level is. Of course you are most welcome to contribute more if you can, but these smaller amounts should make it a bit easier for some who may feel as if they have already contributed enough.
Why am I bothering? I am enjoying a spell of reasonable health after a long time in a dark corridor, so now I feel I can tackle more than just my meds every day! Secondly, in the 15 years I've been a member, I have met, both on-line and face to face, some fantastic people from all over the world, of all ages, nationalities creeds and colours and have, out of them, made some lasting friendships apart from David Morton who stole my boat. Just kidding. For that I thank GT40's.com.
Finally, there's the incredible technical knowledge on this site which makes it a world beater and a unique resource. Ron has avoided commercial involvement and kept the site ad free which results in financial crises from time to time, hence the appeal.
For these reasons I am going to fight tooth and nail to keep this site up & running. So please, if you haven't already:

Perhaps a reasonable sum could be made by splitting off or selling the "SLC" section as this seems to have a large following. I think as this site has become a resource for people building a mid-engine car, it has gained a lot of members who are not "GT40" centered as many of us are.
The Lola section has relevance to the GT40 as the MK 6 was a forerunner and Eric Broadley was a major player in the operation.
I am a sponsor and thus contribute to the site and frankly I do get a lot out of the site personally, on the business side not so much, but I still would not cease sponsorship.
As Club Cobra has become a lucrative profit center for the owner, I know Ron could turn this into a much more commercial operation if he wanted to, however I know this started as a hobby passion and he seems happy to just break even (to our benefit and enjoyment)

Happy to help! I would be disappointed to separate the Superlite world from the GT 40 world. I am building a GT-R and find information from builders other than the Superlite world very valuable.. There are great number of problems that exist in both realms and I believe that we all benefit from that information.

I'd be happy to contribute $$, but would rather keep my Lifetime Premier Supporter icon than lose it through one of the lesser levels of support. I see that I am not the only one who prefers a different route:

Can this be fixed? Perhaps a "non-specific" contribution option that would allow us to provide financial support without having to use the bronze/silver/gold contribution route?

There ARE those of us who really appreciate the opportunity to discuss issues other than automotive, and for my part I would much rather do that with the members of this forum with whom I am familiar and (for the most part) comfortable. If I were to offer any advice to Mike, it would be to use the "Ignore function" for those individuals with whom he does not want to discuss issues not related to automotive topics. The "Ignore" function is quite easy to disable and if there is a technical contribution by a member who has been "ignored" it is quite easy to manage "unlocking" the member to see the post. I have done this and it has worked well.
I, for one, would NOT like to see those who choose to make their contributions contingent on banning any topic or member in the forum succeed in holding the forum "hostage" to their demands.
Just my $.02 worth, Keith. I do agree with Mike...you ARE a good man and you have had a very positive impact on the forum in general, not to mention the Paddock in particular. We are lucky to have you, Keith!
