Line loc

anyone using a line loc for an emergence brake? I was looking at this style as it doesn't use power. any one come across a better style?

Most inspections will not accept a hydraulic locking unit like that for a Parking or emergency brake.

I have no experience with that model in particular for a line-loc, but I thought you had to re-apply pressure to the brake pedal to get that one to release.. I may be wrong on that..

i put in a line lock and the standard state inspection stations figured it out. lets say i had to go to a "substandard" station. It was nice to have because i could leave the car in idle and stop the car.

One thing to watch out for, with hot brake fluid. it would begin to roll inside 20 to 40 minutes dependign on the incline. i ended up taking it out. it took around 7' of flex brake line and i was worreid it slowing the front brake ratio compared to the rear, thats what Wilwood said. After removing it, im not sure that was the case. I ended up going with a smaller bore mast to speed up the front brakes. with a mismatch in master bore , i also had an imbalance to proportion against.

Not to sound like a worry wart, but having a separate mechanical brake is pretty important. I was in a car that had a fluke injector fire while doing 60mph down a major highway which melted my master cylinder and brake lines. Dead brake pedal. Low mileage new car. Thank God for the mechanical brake and carrying a fire extinguisher.

We always think it won't happen to us, and it most likely won't, but when it does, you will either be thankful for the mechanical brake or wish you had one. This goes for some form of fire suppression as well. I will be putting a FS system in my SLC too.

The fire suppression is a must. My SC Cobra caught fire once from some spilt brake fluid on my header wrap and my $30 fire extinguisher saved my $100.000 dollar cobra
That one go's without saying I am looking at this system for that.

Getting back to E brakes some good points brought up, mechanical might be the only way to go? getting the car passed is not a problem either way, just $40 line loc or $1600.00 E Brake ???? again $1600.00 to save a $100,000.00 + car cheap insurance
anyone have less costly solution?

Check with Fran Hall... He has a Wilwood Parking brake solution that should be far less than you're thinking...

Grant, as my car did not come with a parking brake setup as ordered, I looked into line loc as a possible solution. I have been advised that it is not an acceptable solution in NY for a parking brake. I know you said that inspections would not be a problem, but I presume your car would have to pass an initial DMV inspection prior to registration. I do not know the regulations in your jurisdiction, but it would be wise to find out what your jurisdiction allows as a proper parking brake setup. If you can't get past the initial DMV inspection and registration, yearly inspection at the local gas station won't even come into play.

Grant, I see that my previous post has been deleted so I do not know if you saw it or not. My car was ordered with a handbrake, however the builder failed to install same. I looked into installing a line loc setup as a handbrake option, but was advised that it would not be an acceptable option for a handbrake in NY. I do not know about your jurisdiction, but you would be wise to find out your local regulations. I know you posted that a yearly inspection is not a concern, however, if you can not meet your DMV requirements for an initial registration, a yearly inspection would appear to be of no concern.

I think it may depend on the state in which one lives.

I remember Bill D used a line-loc for his parking/emergency brake on his RCR. We all told him it would not pass inspection, but he sailed right through with no problems....and he lives in CA!!! Go figger.......:shocked:
