Looking for info on a GT40 i remember seeing....

ok guys, i'm hoping someone here can help me. About 8 months ago there was a GT40 on ebay. I believe it was made by a company in Maryland that said they had official license to make GT40s. The chassis and suspension were all custom built, possibly out of aluminum or stainless steel. Overall it was REALLY sweet looking. I believe they were asking about 90 grand for it.

Anyone know what i'm talking about?? Have any info?

I'm not aware of any company such as that in MD. I few folks have tried to auction off some CAVs at prices well above market there claiming all sorts of things. No offense to CAV, it is just they have a lot of cars out there so people will buy them and try and turn them around for whatever they can claiming whatever they can. I'd guess you saw one of these but there is no telling.

I wonder...... We have a CAV dealer in MD, and I remember them selling cars on E-bay. I never read the add. Is it possible that they said that they were completing the assembly in MD or something like that?

Re: Looking for info on a GT40 i remember seeing..

anything is possible. i am not terribly knowledgable on GT40s and i was even less knowledgable when i saw the ad. After looking on the CAV site it looks like that's probably what it was.

This is probably a company in Potomac and Annapolis called Cherner Motorsports. They have had at least one CAV car for sale; the times I have seen it, there has never been a motor in it and I believe one has never been installed. Since it is much easier to sell a car that starts, runs, drives and make noise, I wonder why they haven't done so. It seems suspicious to me.
I have seen other cars at Cherner, and frankly was underwhelmed. Essentially they are a car lot, not enthusiasts, basically just used car dealers as a sideline to a Detroit franchise of some kind, and no service shop or mechanics in sight at either of the locations I visited. I would not favor them with either a second look or my business.

I remember that auction. Yes, it was a CAV. Don't remember
much about the details, except that some of the info the
seller gave was erroneus (like it has BRM wheels). I sent
him email to make some corrections.

I had actually printed the info off ebay when it was on auction. It's a CAV advertised with a "302/425HP 5 spd,A/C", chasis # 1A23MONOB66. Contact Rob Yarrow. The plate said Cherner Classics. There was a pic of the engine installed. It was item #2406515794 on ebay. I hope this helps.

Judging by the word MONO, in the middle of the serial number,
I'd be inclined to think that it was a monocoque! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
