Lotus project

Hi, forgive the intrusion into the GT40 world, very interesting reading as it is...

I'm a migrant from the Lotus Forums seeking an adapter plate maker that can assist with adapting an Audi transaxle (016/01e or similar) to a Toyota 2gr-fe. I've limited space and wanted to go with a LSx but there's just not the space so I'm stuck with 6 cylinders! I can always supercharge it later...

Thanks in advance
Simon

Welcome Simon,
Can I ask why a Toyota? There is a member who doesn't frequent here much anymore, Adam Hills, who converted his Esprit and transplanted in a Audi 4.2 V8 (ABZ engine I think) with a 01X mated to it. If I remember correctly, he detailed it on the Motorgeek forum very well. That way, you need no adaptor plate.

Just a thought and once again, welcome

Brett

If your going with a V6 then why not use an Audi V6 or a V8. Audi V8's are close in size to many V6 engines offered by other manufacturers. If you go with the Audi engine, and Audi transaxle, you have a great many clutch/flywheel options at your disposal and don't have to fab up an adapter plate.

I've read Andy's thread more than once, very detailed on the lotus forums too. The Toyota V6 is very easily obtained here in Aus for a reasonable price, the Audi not so.

It might be possible to retain the original drivetrain with cryo treatment and a quaiffe lsd (but would be pushing the limits of the citroen box). I take your point about not needing the adapter plate, the cost of audi anything here is prohibitive though...

If I go ahead with this and decide that I need to upgrade the gearbox I'll have to ship an 01x gearbox from europe probably!

There is the option to supercharge the Toyota motor too fairly easily which would make it a very tasty option... and it is the motor in the Evora so there's a family link too
