MKII Rear Clip Wheel Clearance

From the pictures the clearance between the tires and body looks too large to me. The car is at ride height (~5.5") with drive train installed. If the if the rear clip needs to be lower how to accomplish this?

Appreciate the advice!

on GTDs rear ride height is more 4.5 inches with front at 4 inch to give some chassis rake. No idea if RCR use chassis rake but something to ponder i guess. Lowering your ride height will close that wheel to arch gap. don't forget to realign the camber etc if you do!

Mine rides at 4" front; 4.25" rear. Not sure if Superformance uses the original style eccentric cotton reels to mount the rear of the rear clip, but if they do, they should allow at least half an inch of adjustment.

Thank You Gentlemen!
Tire size from RCR P205/50R15

The ride is set to 5.5". I will lower it to 4.5"

The rear hinge bracket that RCR built may need modification. I can grind the welds on the hinge bolt plate and flip it upside down so the hinge bolts are below the horizontal bar.

I will lower the chassis first.

Be aware that lowering the hinge axis too much may create gap/clearance issues at the front of the clip.

Dropping the ride height to 4.5 " really help the tire clearance. I will drop it a smig more to 4.25".

Rear tire size: P265/50R15

Thanks Brain. I really don't want to drop the hinge points as clearance with the carb trumpets will become an issue. Bottom of the oil pan is flush with the chassis so the engine can't go any lower.

Thank you again. Louis

Your rear tire could be increased as well. A 255/60-15 would add 1.6" in total or 0.8" to the gap.

Yep, go bigger rears. A 265 seems a bit small.

I think Lee had a typo as well and meant to say 285.

My Mk I has 295/50-15's. I forget what the recommended Avon/Nova sizes are but you should be able to find that out. Their spec sheet will give you their dimensions to compare to your 265. If you didn't want to go wider, a 265/60 or /65 might be a better fit as well.

No, I did mean 255/60-15. These cars ran on a 60 profile tire, not a 50. Yes, it's not as wide, but much taller. That is what I have on the back of mine. Matches well with the 215/60-15 front.

Sorry Lee. I hadn't seen a 255 in the past and assumed the first "5" was a missed "8" instead. What brand are you using?
