This will be interesting... There are probably some of us that could check more than one category ... I know I could, but I checked the primary category as that of being a driver in club racing etc..

Ed Zachary. Pick the one that best describes your PRIMARY CURRENT participation in motorsports. Not what you did 20 years ago, or what you're planning to do in five years, but what you're doing currently, as in this year.

Well I recently turned down that number two driver position at Red Bull so do I vote "Pro" or "Spectator"?

Reminds me of a long, long time ago when I was actively autocrossing and not doing too bad (which is amazing 'cause I am not much of a competition driver!) and one day a good friend and I were looking into the stands at the local roundy-round racetrack that we used often and John stated "Look up there, in the stands. While we are top of our class here, there is NOT ONE scout from Lotus, Ferrari or McLaren here to see us!" That pretty much ended my idea that one day I would be competing with the "big boys"

Oh, and my ride was a 1971 Pinto that went like stink! My closest competitor was driving a BMW 1600 Tii that he brought back from his tour of duty in Germany. We often traded the top two places. And understand my Pinto was a "dealer demo" and was sold at the end of the season....."Why, no Ma'm' that tubular header is factory and they ALL sit this low"

Currently I help out a mate who races a 7 style car so I picked "techical support / crew".

I did spend 10 years racing two stroke karts, up to national level.

I used to feel guilty that I sometimes seemed to enjoy the preparing and practicing more than the actual race days. I found that a race day could become a blur of stress and aggro, if you had problems or a "racing incident". Not to mention the usual arguments when people are aggrieved at what someone else did or was perceived to do.

But then I decided it was fine, as you spend much more time prepping than racing, so you may as well enjoy it more. I suppose the ultimate in this direction is when you build and/or prepare a race car for someone else to race. Maybe this person has more skill and BMT (big match temperament) than you, and nothing wrong with that.

And of course the best part of a race day is the beers afterwards, and you don't need to race to enjoy that!

Call me a wimp if you like, some people seem to really enjoy the wheel banging and shouting.

Cheers

Having been involved in sports car racing for many years, I'm now just a pit bitch for a mate with his Formula Libre, and on the side just to keep a hand in , I'm building a replica of a 1967 F5000 powerd by a SBF 302 with an Audi 5 speed Trans. will i drive it probaly not, to slow now, but i have a mate who is keen to wring its kneck, and he dose have the capabilities.
and i must admit like Fred, i also find i get more enjoyment out of setting the car up and making Phil quicker, than i did actualy driving myself, and so much less stress, both on me and my wallet.
cheers John

I race out on the street...does that count? Don't answer that and yes I know I'm a very naughty boy. :lipsrsealed:

Damn, I didn't figure we'd have to make a category for "Criminal Involvement / Street Racing / Foolish Behavior", but it does bring up the point I completely missed "Drag Racing", so thanks for that. I'll add that in with the open road time trial as they are somewhat similar.

......as for "Drag racing".....I gave that up when I kept breaking my heels....sorry couldn't resist Ron. Great poll though? :shy:

Circuit race an Escort mk2 in the under 2 litre IP category, this is why I haven't finished the 40 yet....... :stunned:

Last major race was June this year as a support category for the V8 Supercars.

No sanctioned racing these days but I would like to run the Silver State Classic. I raced MX/SX professionally for several years before deciding it was time to go back to college and earn a CS degree. These days I play a crash test dummy on my sled jumping off of mountains tops.

Hmmm, I suppose we're not doing TOO bad on poll participation. 365 views and 65 votes, what, I suppose that is about like voter turn out for most US elections eh?

Interesting results and with more time I'd have done country specific polls. I suspected we'd have smaller than 40% as spectators and maybe a bit more involvement with wheel to wheel racing than we do. It is good to see that 25% of the folks that responded are actually getting out on track and lapping with some sort of car.

Who's the crap can racer? That is another great way to get involved in some motorsports and have some fun.

What's broken?
