I know Ohio used to be that way. I got a ticket one time for not having a plate on the front of a GTI and got it thrown out of court because there was no front bracket. But I need to revisit that...it was a long time ago and the last thing I want to do is give the authorities an open reason to pull me over at any time.

The BMV website says no exemptions. You were lucky A.J.. According to my friend at the OSHP, it is incumbent on the car's owner to provide a bracket if there is none on the car.

Realistically, they could pull you over at any time they wanted anyways, they don't need an equipment violation to do it. I have not run a front plate on my fun cars in over 20 years. Pulled over once for it and he told me to put it on. Never did.
I'd rather pay the ticket than run one.

Congrats Pete!
My license plate is mounted to a flip down license plate holder that is used on the rear of USA cars to access the gas tank.
I’ve just inverted the holder so now it flips upwards allowing me access to the split pins used to secure the front clip.
Only down side is to causes partial blockage of the brake duct.

Same incident, they also got me for window tint too dark. Law said 50% was allowable, I had 35%. The judge threw that out, too. He must have been in a good mood. I never did put a front plate on, but I kept one in the pouch behind the front seat and planned to toss it in the windshield if I thought I ever was going to get pulled over. Never needed it.

Had a friend ticketed for no front license plate a while back. He went to court, took photos of all cars in court parking lot without front license plates. One happened to be the Judge's car!! Case dismissed.......:thumbsup:

Ha, ha. Well Doc rank certainly seems to have its privileges, but what happened to do as I say, not what I do. That would be the attitude of the Judiciary here. I was thinking that a license plate sized cutout on the nose recessed the thickness of the plate and then glassed back in might attractively solve the problem. I am not sure however that the angle would pass scrutiny. The plate would be visible, but the front of the nose is almost parallel to the road. No blockage there Stu. What do you think?

We considered that option, however, as you point out the angle of the plate is close to parallel and failed the Australian regulations because of that…apparently the electronic plate recognition systems can’t recognize it.

Took the SLC out for it's 1st legal drive tonight. Just a couple miles down the road to fill up with gas and back. I didn't go far because I had a weird clunking noise in the front end and thought I'd better figure out what it was before I went further. Got home and figured out one of the headlight mounts had pulled out of the fiberglass and was causing the noise.

I plan on going to a local cruise-in tomorrow evening and cars and coffee on Sat morning.

Took it to the local cruise in tonight and got absolutely mobbed. I think I got asked 'what is it?' about 100 times. One guy seemed a bit disappointed it wasn't a McLaren, because he was sure it was a McLaren. I think he lost a bet with his buddy

Back to the bodywork today. I have to say I'm getting a bit frustrated with the number of pinholes and voids in the gelcoat I'm finding. Thought I was done with the rear spoiler area but I found a dime sized void.

it will take a while to get them all, I lost count on mine, every time I though I had them all. A new one would pop up. I pretty much sanded all the gel coat off now in hopes of a problem free paint job. I was thinking of driving it in primer the first year till I know for sure its all good before spending $10000.00 on paint.

I had some large voids between the rear fenders and engine compartment and inside of the front fenders, ground and filled them with fine strand kitty hair and resin, works so far.

If you have so much work on your car yourself, you should consider painting it yourself. It really isn't that hard. It's just the time investd really. Your supplys shouldn't run more than$2000 at most(assuming you have none of the equipment required). Building a paint booth is simple(some don't even do that, they just spray some water around to keep the dust down). Just find several good painters on Youtube and follow their advice. I had never painted a car before I did mine in Linden Green. You will make some mistakes along the way, but all are correctable at that stage of the process. Just fix it and go on. As you see it transforming you will find it enjoyable. Here are some of the guys I followed.

Bill I have painted cars before its not hard depending on the paint, I am doing mine in a House of colors Kandy even my painter who is F'ing awesome doesn't wanna do it because of the difficulty in laying it down even. With all the scoops it will be very hard not to double up on the edges. This one will be left in his hands if he can't do it I sure wouldn't have a hope.

Yeah, you are correct. Kandys and Metalics are tough to do. I keep thinking of doing just solid colors. Better to leave the tough ones to the experts.Even with the solids the compound curves are tough to do.

I am doing a wrap on mine this winter, i have several spyder type dimples, some cracking etc.

But again, I dont baby it either, almost everyday I drive it, way hot here this last couple weeks, radiator got up to around 185 in traffic with the temp of 90's outside, but you roast inside 100+ not moving, I keep the doors open in slow traffic, no air in mine.

Does everybody use the back window over the motor? Doesn't it get dirty fast? My engine gets really dirty, I wash it just about every time I drive the car, and if I put the window in, id be cleaning that all the time.

I have a driveway at my shop around 200 ft, gravel, dusty, its dirty before I leave, especially the race tail, it collects everything.
