Seriously, the above post is what set me off, it's ridiculous, stupid, ill informed, extremist bullshit. Jim(bo), if there is something you should be ranting about, it is stuff like that post, that takes a ridiculous right wing view of everything to claim that PC is some sort of attempt to impose Marxism on America, and that the "progressive left" is responsible for it.
In the real world of course, much of (not all) the progressive left is one of the most stalwart defenders of free speech, just as some conservatives are (and some aren't). And plenty of conservatives are PC, in that they attempt to squelch criticism of religion, capitalism, etc. Which is just as PC as squelching criticism of minorities, etc.
But what IS PC? Well, it started out as an attempt to simply be respectful of other cultures and beliefs. I know, terrible. Beyond that, yeah, some folks took it to extremes in a manner that in rare cases threatened free speech.
The point remains. PC is about basic respect for others beliefs. And folks like Al don't like that because it puts pressure on them, not prevents,just puts pressure on them to NOT say racist, or sexist, or jingoistic things. And that pisses them off.
THAT is what is going on here and THAT is the real bullshit. It's a basic failure to understand that just because you can say it, doesn't mean you SHOULD.
But more importantly, what this thread is about is the continued posting of divisive, angry, generalizations about the left/Democrats/whatever by guys like Al. I don't do it. I don't start these threads and I don't come to car forums assuming everyone thinks like me. Al does.
That's my rant. Jimbo, if you are truly against extremism, etc. then posts like Al's? Criticize. Not sensor. But criticize.
Simple stuff.

But think about this. What "things are not being said" for fear of being politically incorrect? At least in this country, we have freedom of speech. Say what you want. But guess what dumbass (not you, just normal dumbasses)? If you say something that offends Muslims or women or black folks and your boss fires you, that's on YOU. YOU are the idiot. You had the right to say something rude, or insensitive or racist, and you did, and now you are shirking responsbility for doing it.
That's really what this is about isn't it? I mean, nearly all the things that people bitch about being "non PC" to say are mostly things that others of differing vieewpoints would find rude or offensive, right? So at least in the US, nothing is stopping Al or Larry from calling blacks lazy or saying that legislatures full of old white guys should have the right to dictate what a woman does with her uterus and so on. THey can say all of that, all the time.
What they are bitching about is they don't want to take responsbility for the implications of that speech. Black goes to work in a store in North Carolina and speaks ebonics and gets fired? Too bad (and I agre with that). Boss don't like it, out you go. White guy works in a factory and makes sexist comments about women and gets fired? PC! PC! Marxism! End of the world!.
Odd isn't it? At the core of this, when you think about it, it is the faux personal responsibility crowd refusing to take responsibility for the impact of their speech.
Imagine that.
