Hello everyone. Several people have been contacting me about PORN SPAM in their PM'S. THANK YOU for your information. PLEASE do not open these links up. I have been banning these people as fast as I can. I have asked for help from Ron and Randy also with this. I show these are routed through Russia, and I can't stop it fast enough. I checked one new member, and it showed they had 13 IP addressees. When I checked again to verify something, they had 52 addressees in a matter of moments. Please know, that I am diligently working on it

THANKS AGAIN
Regards Brian

Ya, report these as spam to your email provider and DO NOT OPEN THEM!!!!! And thanks for your help, Brian. You asked me for more info on my email from them, but I was afraid to try and send you a link. I just didn't want to forward it because I am not a computer guy and I have no idea what would happen to you.

In any case thanks.

I was like what the hell , then I loged in and it was gone . Glad you guys are on top of things. I do like fried spam on toast with mustard .

Thanks Brian and Ron.. We're on the road a few weeks on vacation (our first REAL vacation) and cell phones just don't always work..
I'll be back online in a few days..

Hello -

I just registered on this site today and already received a PM from said perpetrators. I did not open the link but wasn't sure if I should delete or not?

Hi Folks,

We have deleted a couple of these spammers in the recent week. Those of you that haven't logged on and viewed private messages in several days, or weeks, might still think there are spammers active unless you pay attention to the date the PM was sent.

If anyone detects NEW PM spam activity please let us know.

Thanks,
Ron

Hi Folks,

Spam has gotten out of hand as of late. The spambots are circumnavigating the spam guards we have in place and are becoming registered users. Once they are registered users they can send private messages to people, email members, and so on. So, for a temporary amount of time we're severely limiting the number and frequency of private messages users can send while we beef up our spam guards.

Thanks,
Ron

Can an admin edit the message above (#11) and remove the URL (or delete the post)? We don't need to help the spammer's SEO ranking by publishing their URL.

Those of you that are getting these PM’s and emails -
We have to have the user ID that sent you the message in order to act upon it. We will ban the ID immediately..

We have a way to fix the spam problem.

What we'll do is put in a "Promotion System". So someone who registers here today new will become a "Registered User" but they won't be able to start conversations/send private messages. After that person has made X number of posts then the system will promote them to a level above "Registered User" which will allow them to start conversations and send PMs. A spammer or spam bot won't be able to make X posts without getting kicked off of here.

So, the question now becomes how many posts to get promoted and what is this user level called? "Validated User"?

Thanks for your efforts Ron

I, respectfully, would suggest to keep the amount of posts to be promoted low. Most spam cases won't post that many times if they are not able to message people straight off. Typically they will move on quite quickly. This will stop the impact on legitimate users being too demanding. It can be raised if it still an issue.
