power steering ?

Hi David,
Not done a GTD, but done installations on a Tornado (mine) and a KVA (Tony Browne's) using a Corsa EPAS system. It works really well and reduces steering loads at parking speeds

Yes Dave, I have fitted electric power steering from a Vauxhall Corsa. It simply works on a rheostat on the dash so that you can put in as much assistance as you want.

Send me a PM or give me a ring and I will give you more info.

Is the car still with Hughie?

Brian.

Hi Brian
Yes it is still with Hughie.
Thank you all for your replies. Just released from Hospital (again) today, I will respond shortly and talked it over with Hughie.

I've just had a word with Hugh and based on what you chaps have told me, he will investigate further.
Thank you again for the info. Any pictures would be immensely helpful.

Stateside people that want EPS should look into Saturn Vue and the Ebay controller. Dirt cheap if you go to the U-Pull yards. A little more if purchased on eBay.

I made one fit from the Prius with the 1.5 :1 Steering quickener was like driving a different car on the track never liked the slow steering on my RCR this makes it way easier to correct the car

If anyone is considering fitting a power steering system, they can put pretty significant loads on their mounting points, just make sure they are fixed to something substantial.

Dave, I believe our Aussie friend Pete put some sort of electric power steering on his 40, you might check with him. I have no idea if his 40 is the same brand as yours ("logic" says it wouldn't be), but maybe the product he used would fit your 40.

Cheers!

Hi Dave

I think i was first to install electric power steering I also fitted it to Pete McCluskeys DRB virtually a bolt in change over on mine & Pete's, used a Holden Barina / Opel Corsa column you can pick them up at at most auto wreckers for about $40.00. make sure you get the ECU and all the connectors with the column it will make life simple then order a control unit on line from Rally Wiz in the UK was about $80.00. Depending on your existing steering spline you may need to make a suitable uni joint.

Are these columns small? I have a very small cockpit. Another question would you be willing to get one and send it to the USA?

Hi Rod,

They where the smallest units i could find back when I installed mine also seemed to be the most popular option for all the rally drivers. It went into my Roaring Forty perfectly and into the DRB just as well. I can send you one not sure how readily available they are.
