Quadcam GT40

Ok, quick question for you GT40 owners and owners to be! here goes...

Ford Quadcam GT40,
1. Would you have this over the 302 or equiv
2. Your age.
3. reasons for and or against!

In my opinion reasons for are smooth modern power delivery and economy (in comparison to carb'd 302). tbh, i want the looks of an old GT40 coupled with the driveability and feel of a modern car.

Thankyou and goodnite.
Jim

see the 5.4 thread

1. I would prefer a 302-351 based motor

2.50yrs

3. I prefer an old school look, but stack efi would be a good compromise for drivability

if I were looking at modern powerplants, LS series , modular ect.. I would consider building an SLC from fran. It is begging for one of those and it looks right in the engine bay

1. 302 everytime.
2. 63
3. 40s are a period car. Why miss out on the character? If you want smooth/dull buy a toyota. Also if you want a bit smoother balance it internally and set it up properly. If you want big grunt use a 351 stroked out to 427.
Just my 2c

Hi Jim
The Australian Government's policy on carbon emissions dictates that in the future we will have no alternative but to put a modern efi engine in our kit cars or they won't be passed for registration. Having said that the Ford Modular 4.6 in my RFGT40 I find is a very good match for power to weight and has excellent driveability. There are new intake manifolds now on the market to suit the Modular engine that will give it the old look but it's a big thumbs up from me for the new engines.

Ditto, we are locked in. Freedom of choice goes out the window when Governments keep dreaming up rules to justify their existence.

Jim,
i have a 4.6 ltr dohc in my car a rf mk1,fits good and to get the old school look i have just made an inlet to take eight throttle bodies.

cheers Ali

jimmy,

look at the lexus 4.0l engine: dohc, excellent power to weight ratio, and it will fit into a gt40. rev higher than the 5.4 and is more efficient. an aussie company makes an adapter for the 4.0 to a g50 box. another aussie company makes a great looking fi for it. the look and a modern engine.

The Lexus/Toyota 4.0L 1uz are cheap as chips as well, I know I bought a good one for $800AUD. I ended up going with the 4.6L quad cam Mod motor because it's a Ford.

1:For me, the new all alloy quad cam anyday. More efficient and more power. Downside is their phisical size.
2: I'm only 33 and that might have something to do with it.

I ended up with a 5.4 Boss 260 mainly due to rego requirements in NSW and the fact that by running this motor I get the reliability of a new standard motor with plenty of power and no pollution testing required as it complies.

most replies it seems are from OZ where you have to run a new engine, i expect its going to go this way in UK sooner or later....

I'm trying to see if there is a link between the people that prefer the benefits of a modern engine over originality and their age

1. 302 everytime
2. 42
3. Original look. I've plumped for stack Injection to get better emmissions and driveability and hopefully futureproofing to some extent as I'm not going to have the car SVA'd for some time yet.

Martin

1) Ford V8 (302) - why use anything else when the original engine is still available and can meet the UK emissions requirements
2) 46
3) Originality, like Martin will eventually use a stack injection, but a single carb to get the engine thro SVA. Having a pre-78 block means no emissions equipment is required. Everything else in the engine will be new to get a new registration document

Regards
Andy

1) 302
2) 33
3) Three immediately spring to mind.
i- Originality
ii- Size, the modular is a lot wider. Also if you can afford it you can now get 302s in Ally
iii - Emissions. If you can get a pre Aug 75 block here in the UK you don't need emissions for SVA.
